About the role:
We are seeking an outstanding Mechanical Engineer 3, Consumables Sustaining to join the Manufacturing Systems Engineering (MSE) team at 10x Genomics. This is a key position for the sustainment and technical stewardship of on-market consumables products. This is a multi-disciplinary position that involves close collaboration with various groups including other operations functions (Supply Chain Management, Planning, Manufacturing, Quality Control) as well as Fluidics and R&D Engineering. You will play a key role in driving and supporting issue identification, root cause analysis and remediation.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in supporting complex plastic components for the life sciences or medical device industries. They should possess a broad understanding of the design and manufacturing of complex plastic systems and excel in solving complex problems. As a member of the team, you will be instrumental in supporting 10x manufacturing, supply chain, and service & support teams to support products that enable accelerated understanding of biology.
What you will be doing:
Support the design, development and transfer of new consumable components.
Serve as mechanical point of contact for on-market consumables sustaining issues.
Communicate findings and recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders across operations, commercial and R&D.
Troubleshoot and resolve both field and manufacturing issues with consumables (e.g. LSR-thermoplastic assemblies and precision injection-molded COC/COP microfluidics).
Lead/support root cause investigations (e.g. seal leaking, dimensional drift, biocompatibility, cracking) using FEA, tolerance analysis and hands-on failure analysis. Implement and verify corrective actions.
Support investigations into fluidic and microfluidic performance issues in partnership with broader sustaining and R&D engineering groups.
Drive on-market engineering changes (ECOs/ECRs) through change control process.
Contribute to CAPAs, non-conformance investigations and support QC method development and deployment.
Utilize Arena PLM and Oracle ERP systems to manage product lifecycle and manufacturing processes effectively.
Identify yield, reliability and quality improvement opportunities for on-market consumables.
Support Gage R&R, FMEA and risk assessment of on-market consumable issues.
Education: BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience: 6+ (BS) or 4+ (MS) years of experience in mechanical design or sustaining engineering, with at least 3 years specifically in biotech consumables.
Plastics Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge and experience with thermoplastic resins (COC, COP, PC, PP), elastomers (TPE/TPU), and the nuances of precision injection molding.
Engineering: Strong understanding of 3D mechanical design, geometric tolerancing per ASME Y14.5, dimensional stack-ups and inspection procedures.
Tooling/Equipment: Demonstrated proficiency with CAD, PDM systems, simulation suites, metrology and imaging equipment (e.g. OGP, Keyence, Nikon) and data analysis tools (e.g. JMP).
Quality Systems: Familiarity with Risk Management, Process capability (cpk, ppk), FMEA, and Gage R&R.

Below is the base pay range for this full-time position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one’s skills, qualifications, and experience. At 10x, base pay is also just one component of the Company’s total compensation package. This role is also eligible for 10x’s equity grants, its comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs, and its annual bonus program or sales incentive program.
