About 10x Genomics
At 10x Genomics, accelerating our understanding of biology is more than a mission for us. It is a commitment. This is the century of biology, and the breakthroughs we make now have the potential to change the world.

We enable scientists to advance their research, allowing them to address scientific questions they did not even know they could ask. Our tools have enabled fundamental discoveries across biology including cancer, immunology, and neuroscience.

Social Media Manager

Position Overview

The Social Media Manager owns how 10x Genomics shows up on social media. This role reports to the Director, Digital Marketing and is accountable for our organic social strategy and execution across all corporate channels, for building an engaged community of researchers around our brand, and for turning our own scientists, field teams, and leaders into a credible, active voice on social media through an employee advocacy program.

This is a channel owner role. You will work with the broader team to define the strategy, run the calendar, publish, engage, measure, and improve. You will work with a content team that can support producing copy and visual assets, but the plan and the results are yours.

Our audience is scientists. They can tell the difference between marketing that understands their work and marketing that does not. The right person for this role is as interested in what our customers are discovering as in the channels used to talk about it.

What you will be doing:

  1. Social Strategy and Channel Ownership

  • Strategy: Own the global organic social media strategy across LinkedIn, Twitter (X), YouTube, Instagram, and any channels that matter to our audience, including channel roles, audience priorities, content pillars, and voice.

  • Calendar and governance: Run the global social calendar, coordinating product launches, campaigns, events, webinars, publications, and corporate news into a coherent plan. Set the standards for what gets posted, where, and how.

  • Regional and functional alignment: Partner with regional marketing, product marketing, communications, and the scientific community teams so social reflects the whole company, not one slice of it.

  • Platform expertise: Stay current on platform changes, formats, and algorithm shifts, and adjust the plan before performance drops.

  1. Content and Publishing

  • Content development: Plan and produce social content, from scientific storytelling and customer research highlights to product education, event coverage, and culture. Write directly when needed and brief the content and creative teams when scale requires it.

  • Video and repurposing: Work with the Email & Webinar Marketing Manager and the content and creative teams to turn webinars, talks, and long-form content into short-form video and social-native formats.

  • Publishing and quality: Own publishing across channels, including scheduling, formatting, accessibility, and accuracy review with scientific and legal stakeholders where required.

  • Paid coordination: Coordinate with the paid media team on boosted and paid social so organic and paid tell one story.

  1. Community Management and Engagement

  • Engagement: Monitor and respond across channels, engage with researchers, institutions, and partners, and surface conversations the business should know about.

  • Community building: Identify and nurture the scientists, labs, and voices who champion our tools, and build programs (spotlights, takeovers, conversations, user-generated content) that give them a reason to engage with 10x publicly.

  • Listening and insight: Run social listening for brand, product, competitor, and scientific conversation, and turn it into regular insight for marketing, product, and communications.

  • Escalation: Own the process for routing support issues, sensitive comments, and reputational risks to the right teams quickly.

  1. Employee Advocacy

  • Program ownership: Build and run an employee advocacy program that makes it easy for scientists, field application teams, sales, and leaders to share and create content on social media.

  • Enablement: Provide training, guidelines, ready-to-share content, and platform support, and coach a core group of internal voices on building a credible presence.

  • Measurement: Track participation, reach, and engagement from employee channels and show their contribution to brand and pipeline goals.

  1. Measurement and Reporting

  • Own social reporting: audience growth, engagement, share of voice, traffic and conversions to the website, and contribution to campaign and pipeline goals.

  • Report monthly to the digital marketing team and quarterly to marketing leadership on what is working, what is not, and what you are changing.

Skills and Competencies

  • Channel ownership: Experience owning organic social strategy and execution for a B2B or scientific brand, not just supporting it.

  • Scientific credibility: Ability to understand and represent complex scientific content accurately and make it engaging. Comfortable working with scientists as reviewers and collaborators.

  • Writing and editing: Strong, fast, platform-native writing. You can draft a post, edit a scientist's draft, and brief a copywriter, and know which is needed when.

  • Community instinct: Experience building and moderating engaged communities and handling sensitive interactions with judgment.

  • Advocacy program experience: Experience launching or running an employee advocacy program, including tooling, training, and measurement.

  • Video fluency: Working knowledge of short-form video formats and what performs on each platform; able to brief creative and edit light clips yourself.

  • Analytics: Proficient with native platform analytics and social management and listening tools (Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Sprinklr, Brandwatch, or similar), and able to connect social activity to web and pipeline outcomes.

  • Collaboration: Able to coordinate many stakeholders across regions and functions while holding a clear standard for the channels.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience managing organic social media for a B2B, scientific, healthcare, or technology brand, with direct ownership of strategy and results.

  • Experience running community engagement and social listening programs.

  • Experience with social media management and analytics platforms.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in life sciences, biotech, research tools, or another audience of scientists or clinicians.

  • Experience building or running an employee advocacy program.

  • Experience producing and editing short-form video for social.

  • Experience coordinating organic social with paid social campaigns.

  • Familiarity with regulated-industry review processes for external communications.

  • Experience working with regional or global marketing teams across time zones.
