About 10x Genomics

At 10x Genomics, accelerating our understanding of biology is more than a mission for us. It is a commitment. This is the century of biology, and the breakthroughs we make now have the potential to change the world.

We enable scientists to advance their research, allowing them to address scientific questions they did not even know they could ask. Our tools have enabled fundamental discoveries across biology including cancer, immunology, and neuroscience.

About the team and role

Historically, the people who built analytics and decision-support tools and the people who used them as strategic business partners sat in different orgs and teams. Analytics/BI, Data Science/Engineering, and Enterprise SWE teams developed the data infrastructure, dashboards, ML/statistical models, and analytics software. Corporate Strategy, BizOps, Growth, FP&A, and Strategic Finance used them, along with less scalable and more ad-hoc spreadsheets and decks, to drive decisions as business partners. Individuals who were both strategic operators and product-minded builders often had to choose and specialize within one of these teams.

The Strategic Insights & Analytics team at 10x Genomics is built around the premise that this choice is no longer necessary. With AI, one high-agency person with cross-disciplinary range can credibly span all of these disciplines and drive both the decisions and the tools and infrastructure behind them, working as both a forward-deployed builder and a strategic partner to executives. We have conviction that traditionally fragmented, static, spreadsheet-driven models, along with the institutional knowledge and context, can now converge into a company world model: a single unified analytical representation of the company, customers, and market. We partner closely with our central SWE, AI, and Data Platform teams to co-develop this model with engineering discipline: creating models with statistical rigor, versioning in code repositories, and deploying as an internal product.

As a Lead on the Strategic Insights & Analytics team, your primary product is better decisions to support company resource allocation, growth, and GTM strategies, where you will be responsible for partnering with senior business leaders to frame questions and strategic rationale, and answer with robust analysis and recommendations. Your secondary product is the cumulative and compounding context and analytical models of the business, legible to both humans and AI, that will generate decision-support software and become the flywheel that accelerates the primary goal of better decisions. This is what a16z describes as “designing the operating system the company runs on”.

This is a high-impact individual contributor role in a flat, central org with direct exposure to a leadership team that values data-driven decision making. You will embed within teams across the organization to drive impact, then move on to the next highest-leverage problem.

What you will be working on

  • Shape where and how the company grows: Partner with leadership to answer ambiguous, high-stakes questions end-to-end: market opportunity, segment prioritization, pricing and monetization, market entry, and where to place the next dollar of commercial investment. Frame the decisions, build the evidence, and develop clear recommendations with transparent assumptions and trade-offs. Own it until it becomes action, program managing the cross-functional decisions and initiatives that follow.

  • Explain where growth comes from: Build the company’s quantitative understanding of growth: new versus existing customers by segment; activation, adoption, retention, and expansion; cohort analysis and funnel conversion; and the true incremental return and effectiveness of sales, marketing, and service investment. Turn that understanding into sharper choices about which customers to pursue and which levers to pull.

  • Direct commercial resources to the highest return: Give leaders a forward view they can plan and act against. Build demand, customer lifetime value (LTV), and sales, marketing, and service capacity models at the territory, account, and instrument level that drive annual planning, quota and territory design, and in-year resource shifts. Migrate planning models from spreadsheets to versioned models in GitHub.

  • Make strategic insight a product: Convert one-off analyses into durable systems: AI-enabled tools and agentic workflows that surface risks and opportunities, predictive models (propensity, churn risk, next-best-action) deployed where they change frontline decisions, and a unified business review cadence on standardized views tied to company goals. Every project adds to a compounding knowledge base the whole company builds on.

  • Build the data and semantic foundations: Define and implement customer and market segments across systems, enriched with telemetry and other data. Develop versioned metric definitions and business context so people and AI reason over a shared model, and improve our EDW and semantic layer (dbt, GitHub, Snowflake).

  • Embed, then redeploy: Embed with a function on its most important problem. Find what works and scale it, then document, automate, and hand it off so the improvement sticks after you move on, replacing manual work with agentic workflows and enabling self-serve analytics and insights.

To be successful you will need

  • Education & experience: Bachelor’s or Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science) or an MBA with a technical focus; 8+ years experience in data science, analytics, corporate strategy, business operations, management consulting, or similar roles using analytics and applied data science to solve complex business problems and drive strategic decisions

  • Analytical rigor: Hands-on depth in cohort and retention analysis, regression, time series, causal inference and experiment design, and supervised and unsupervised models; experience deploying machine learning models into production to solve commercial or operational problems

  • Technical proficiency: reflexively AI-first, with experience shipping working systems using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) and the aptitude to learn new tools quickly; SQL and Python for data manipulation and predictive modeling; Git, GitHub, Snowflake, dbt or similar, CI/CD tools, comfortable building code-based, version-controlled reporting and dashboards that replace legacy tools like Tableau or Power BI

  • High agency & product thinking: Extreme bias for action and comfort working in a fast-paced environment with ambiguous requirements; you assume AI can do something until proven otherwise, scope problems and verify your own work, and design for the end user

  • Communication skills: Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present technical work to senior management, sales leadership, and non-technical audiences and to influence cross-functional teams
