AI Transformation Lead

Job type: Full Time · Department: Finance · Work type: Hybrid · USD 140,000-180,000 / year

New York, New York, United States

About Alaffia & Our Mission

Every year, U.S. health plans lose billions to improper payments and administrative waste. That wasted spending ultimately trickles down across the healthcare ecosystem, driving up costs for plans, providers, and patients alike. We’re here to change that paradigm.

Alaffia is a new kind of claims operations partner for health plans. Using expert clinicians and transparent AI, we deliver deeper insights, smarter automation, and consistently better outcomes across the entire lifecycle of claims. With Alaffia, health plans can cut wasted spending more effectively than ever — and provide their members the most affordable care.

We’re a high-growth, venture-backed Series B healthtech startup based in NYC and are actively scaling our company. Join us in helping to build a healthcare system that works better for everyone.

*This position requires current authorization to work in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to sponsor work visas at this time.

About the Role

As our Internal AI Lead, you will sit within Business Operations and serve the entire organization (every team at Alaffia is your customer!). You will be the engine behind Alaffia’s internal AI transformation: identifying where we lose time, building tools and agents that win it back, and enabling every team to operate at a level that was previously impossible. This isn’t a support role. It’s a leverage role.

You will work across clinical operations, payment integrity, utilization management, appeals, product, and GTM to identify bottlenecks, build AI-powered solutions, and empower teams to sustain and extend that work themselves. You will also help build the foundational AI primitives ( the systems, libraries, standards, and governance frameworks) that will compound Alaffia’s operational capacity as we scale to serve health plans across the country.

What You'll Do

Diagnose & Prioritize

  • Serve as a trusted internal partner to every team at Alaffia: proactively auditing their workflows to surface the highest-impact AI and automation opportunities.

  • Translate operational pain points into a prioritized roadmap with clear ROI, keeping the long-term mission (better outcomes for payers, providers, and patients) front of mind.

Build & Ship

  • Design and deploy AI-powered agents, apps, and workflows using a mix of code and no-code tools.

  • Own solutions end-to-end,  from prototype to production, without waiting for a dedicated engineering team. Ship things that work.

Drive AI Adoption Across the Organization

  • Act as the internal AI platform for all of Alaffia’s teams. Run enablement sessions, create documentation, and build champions who sustain impact long after you’ve moved on to the next problem.

  • Meet teams where they are (especially clinical and operations staff) and help them build AI fluency in a way that feels accessible and safe.

Establish Operational Rigor

  • Define success metrics for every initiative. Track performance, measure adoption, and demonstrate business impact with clarity and honesty.

  • Iterate based on data and feedback. Build a culture of continuous improvement backed by evidence.

Build Alaffia’s AI Foundations

  • Develop the core primitives: documentation, agent libraries, SOPs, and governance frameworks that allow Alaffia to build and deploy AI reliably, responsibly, and at scale.

  • Ensure everything you build accounts for the regulatory and compliance environment we operate in: HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC-II, and the standards our health plan partners depend on.

Who You Are

  • AI-Native Builder. An AI-native builder with deep, demonstrated experience using AI to build, ship, and accelerate work. You can take an ambiguous problem and deliver a working solution.

  • Technically Fluent. Fluent with low-code/no-code and developer tools (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.), SQL and BI tools, APIs, scripting, and integrations. You don’t need to be a full-stack engineer, but you can build.

  •  Analytical and Empathetic Problem-Solver. You can partner with clinical and operations teams to understand their challenges, use data to prioritize opportunities, and measure impact with rigor and empathy.

  •  Excellent Communicator. You manage expectations and maintain alignment across competing priorities. You translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders — and translate operational or clinical requirements into precise technical specs.

  • Systems Builder. You naturally create clarity out of chaos — writing SOPs, building templates, defining standards, and structuring knowledge so that both humans and agents can build on your work.

  • Mission-Driven and Comfortable with Ambiguity. You thrive in fast-paced startup environments where priorities shift and you need to figure things out on the fly. You have high agency, you move fast, and you care deeply about the mission.

  • 3–6 years of experience in product management, product operations, forward-deployed or solutions engineering, technical program management, or a similar role where you have solved real operational problems with technical solutions.

Our Culture

Alaffia was born out of our founders’ personal connection to the inefficiency of the U.S. healthcare system. We are deeply mission-driven, with an abiding belief that technology can help create a better future for everyone — and we’re looking for others who share our passion for change to join the team.
