Assistant Manager – Communications & External Affairs
Reporting to: Director, Government Affairs & Public Policy
Location: Bangalore, HSR- Work From Office
About the Role
We are looking for an Assistant Manager – Communications & External Affairs to support government engagement, public affairs initiatives, corporate communications, and policy advocacy efforts at AppsForBharat. The role requires strong written communication skills, stakeholder management capabilities, and the ability to work across government, media, and industry ecosystems.
Public Relations & Communications
Media Relations
Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media stakeholders across business, technology, digital, and regional publications.
Support media outreach initiatives including company announcements, leadership interviews, product launches, and corporate milestones.
Coordinate media interactions, respond to press inquiries, and maintain media databases and contact lists.
Content & Corporate Communications
Draft press releases, media notes, newsletters, leadership communications, speeches, and opinion pieces.
Develop key messaging documents, spokesperson briefs, FAQs, and communication materials for internal and external stakeholders.
Ensure consistency in brand and corporate messaging across channels.
Reputation Management
Monitor media coverage, industry developments, and public sentiment related to the company and sector.
Support crisis communication preparedness through drafting response frameworks, holding statements, and escalation protocols.
Prepare regular media monitoring and communication reports for leadership.
Social Media & Digital Communications
Manage the company's professional presence across LinkedIn and other relevant platforms.
Support content planning and execution aligned with key business initiatives and campaigns.
Coordinate with design and marketing teams to develop communication assets and track engagement metrics.
Events & Industry Engagement
Assist in planning and executing press events, industry roundtables, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.
Coordinate event logistics, media participation, speaker engagements, and post-event reporting.
Represent the organization at relevant industry forums and networking events when required.
Government Affairs & Public Policy
Government Relations & Stakeholder Management
Support engagement with Central Ministries, State Government departments, regulatory bodies, and public institutions.
Build and maintain relationships with relevant government stakeholders and ecosystem partners.
Track policy, regulatory, and legislative developments relevant to the business and share timely updates with internal teams.
Documentation & Proposal Development
Prepare proposals, concept notes, government submissions, Expressions of Interest (EOIs), partnership documents, and grant applications.
Draft official correspondence, briefing notes, meeting summaries, and stakeholder communication materials.
Create professional presentations and policy decks for government and industry audiences.
Policy Research & Advocacy
Conduct research on policy developments impacting the consumer internet, technology, digital platforms, and related sectors.
Support preparation of policy recommendations, consultation responses, industry submissions, and advocacy initiatives.
Coordinate with industry associations, think tanks, and external stakeholders on policy-related matters.
Tools & Skills
Required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong drafting and documentation capabilities.
Proficiency in Google Slides, Google Workspace, and Canva.
Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and projects simultaneously.
Preferred
Prior experience in Government Affairs, Public Policy, Corporate Communications, Public Relations, or External Affairs.
Experience working with startups, technology companies, consulting firms, public affairs agencies, or PR agencies.
Familiarity with government processes, regulatory frameworks, and policy research.
Existing relationships with media professionals, government stakeholders, or industry bodies will be an added advantage.
