Lead Frontend Engineer
Job type: Full Time · Department: Engineering · Work type: On-Site
Pune, Maharashtra, India
Avoma is an intelligent meeting assistant that helps revenue and customer-facing teams automate the busywork around meetings. We use NLP and machine learning to transcribe, summarize, and extract key topics and action items — automatically syncing that data back into the CRM so teams can focus on the conversation, not the note-taking.
We're a series-A venture-funded, early-stage startup with thousands of paid customers and consistent month-over-month growth.
We're looking for a Lead Frontend Engineer to be the senior technical voice across our frontend surfaces — the core web app, our Chrome extension, and our Electron desktop app. This is a senior IC role: you'll set technical direction, make architecture calls, and mentor other engineers, without formal people-management duties.
Avoma doesn't have dedicated PMs today — engineers here own product thinking directly, from talking to users and shaping requirements through to shipping. If you want someone else to hand you a fully-specified ticket, this isn't that role. If you want real say over what gets built and why, it is.
You'll work across:
Video Player — Video.js-based playback of meeting recordings, including HLS streaming and quality selection.
Chrome Extension — the in-meeting capture experience that talks to our core web app.
Electron Desktop App — our native meeting companion, built with Electron Forge.
Performance & Delivery — bundle size, caching strategy, and CI/CD pipeline improvements (GitHub Actions).
Interactive Dashboards — data visualization built on D3 and Nivo, plus reusable React wrappers around them.
Collaborative Note Editor — real-time, multi-user rich text editing built on Slate.js/Y.js (CRDT-based sync), with an active migration path toward Tiptap.
You'll work closely with backend and product leadership across all of the above — this role touches nearly every part of the product a user sees.
We're not looking for someone who just closes tickets. We want an engineer who thinks like an owner:
You dig to the root cause instead of patching symptoms, and your fixes tend to prevent the next three bugs, not just the one in front of you.
You anticipate edge cases and system-wide impact without being told — your work rarely comes back for rework.
You raise the bar for the engineers around you through code review, design docs, or just the example of your own work.
You're comfortable owning both new product surfaces and the unglamorous work of maintaining and hardening what already exists in production.
You go deeper than the ticket — you understand the user problem behind a request, question requirements that don't hold up, and shape what gets built, not just how. At Avoma, engineers fill the product-thinking gap directly; there's no PM layer to defer to.
8+ years as a software engineer, with a track record of shipping high-impact software.
Strong command of React, Redux/Redux Toolkit, JavaScript, and TypeScript — our codebase is a mix of both, and we lean toward TypeScript for new work.
Experience owning frontend architecture across a growing codebase — including migrations (e.g., legacy JS → TS, or between library versions).
Comfort working across more than just a single web SPA — prior experience with a browser extension and/or an Electron/desktop app is a strong plus.
Experience with data visualization (D3 or similar) and/or real-time collaborative editing (Slate, Tiptap, ProseMirror, Y.js, or similar CRDT tooling) is a strong plus.
Experience writing and maintaining tests (we use Vitest, React Testing Library, and Playwright for E2E).
Comfortable operating without a dedicated PM — you can go from a rough problem statement or user complaint to a scoped solution yourself.
Genuinely resourceful with AI coding tools — you use Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or similar day-to-day to move faster, not as a novelty. We want someone who's figured out how to get real leverage from these tools on a production codebase, not just autocomplete.
Strong eye for detail and genuine passion for consumer-grade UI/UX.
Experience translating design mockups into responsive UI with Tailwind CSS.
Excellent written and verbal communication — you'll be a technical anchor other engineers look to.
This is an on-site role based in Pune.
Full-time, direct hire.
Transparent salary structure: ₹37,00,000 – ₹50,00,000 annually, based on experience.
Equity options.
15 days of vacation annually, on top of company holidays.
10 days of sick time annually, separate from vacation and holidays.
