Senior Manager, Analytics Engineering

Job type: Full Time · Department: Data · Work type: Remote

United States

At Carrum Health, we have built a unique marketplace for specialty care with unparalleled patient experience

Since 2014, we have been rewiring a fundamentally broken healthcare system. By connecting large employers directly with the nation's top-tier providers, our platform replaces a flawed fee-for-service model with one that actually works. If you are passionate about solving complex economic problems, driving systemic change in our healthcare system, and thriving in a people-first culture, we want you on our team. As a high-growth health tech company, we are seeking high-performing, exceptional talent to scale our platform and ensure that anyone in the country facing a specialty procedure has access to the life-changing Carrum benefit.

Our marketplace creates massive value for all stakeholders:

  • For Employers (Demand): Predictable, transparent pricing that slashes specialty care costs by up to 45% and eliminates waste

  • For Providers (Supply): Ability to gain market share while reducing administrative burden, empowering top-tier doctors to focus completely on delivering optimal care.

  • For Members (Users): A life-changing benefit with dedicated concierges, VIP access to the nation's best specialists, and little-to-no out-of-pocket costs.

The salary range for this role is $195,000 - $225,000  depending on geography and level of experience, plus equity and an annual bonus.

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Analytics Engineering to help us turn the data that runs our business into a platform anyone at Carrum can trust and use. The Senior Manager will play a critical role in our success.

Reporting to the Director of AI & Analytics Engineering, you will own our dbt data mart, the semantic layer on top of it, and the client-facing exports the business runs on. You'll be responsible for the standard of that work and the growth of the team producing it — and for the modeling, metadata and guardrails that let anyone at Carrum get a trustworthy answer without writing SQL.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will...

  • Own data the business depends on: Take accountability for client exports, the dbt data mart, and the semantic layer above them, where reliability is a commercial outcome rather than a hygiene metric.

  • Lead and build the team: Coach and develop analytics engineers, shape how the team works, and hire as we grow.

  • Set the standard for the craft: Define what "done" means at Carrum — grain definitions, testing, freshness checks, documentation and ownership metadata — then review against it and hold the line.

  • Make reliability a discipline: Build the monitoring, testing and ownership model that lets the team catch issues before stakeholders do — and design systems that stay dependable as the team and the business scale.

  • Make AI self-service real: Treat Hex as a product, not a tool. Build the semantic layer, guardrails and PHI controls that let anyone at Carrum query the warehouse in natural language and trust the answer.

  • Modernize the stack: Support the Databricks migration to completion — setting direction and clearing obstacles without taking the design away from the engineer leading it.

  • Be the front door: Translate ambiguous requests from Finance, Client Success and Operations into scoped work, and push back when the ask isn't the real need.

We’re excited about you because…

  • You lead analytics engineers and still write code: 8-10 years in analytics engineering or a closely related data role, with 2+ years managing. You review PRs, you unblock by doing, and you know when to stop doing.

  • You've mastered dbt: Advanced hands-on experience, with defensible opinions on project structure, testing, documentation and modularity, and a track record of building team practice around them.

  • You set standards and enforce them kindly: You've raised a team's bar through code review, process and clear expectations rather than through heroics or rewrites.

  • You've owned an operational data surface: Something where late or wrong data had consequences outside your team, and you built the monitoring and process that made it dependable.

  • You care about the semantic layer: You've owned a BI tool like Hex as a product, thinking about semantic layer health and cross-team model standards, and you're thinking hard about how AI agents query data accurately without bypassing governance.

  • You've worked at scale in the cloud: Deep experience with cloud data warehousing (Azure,  Athena, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.) and cost minimization. Databricks and platform migration experience are a strong plus.

  • You thrive in ambiguity: You're comfortable with a startup's pace, proactively seeking out high-value problems before they're on anyone's roadmap rather than waiting to be told what to do.

  • Bonus: you know healthcare: Knowledge of the healthcare tech industry and/or medical/pharmacy claims is a strong plus.

Why you’ll love working with us...

  • We’re a hard-working, humble, and compassionate group motivated to solve the hard problems in healthcare today. You’ll work with talented, experienced co-workers from companies like Booz & Company, Teladoc, Hinge Health, Accolade, Angi, and Optum.

  • We champion a collaborative environment where team members can be autonomous, receive support and healthy feedback, and bring their authentic selves to work.

  • We carve out time to celebrate our successes and have fun. We’re a remote-first company with employees all over the United States. We offer holistic employee support with flexible working hours, generous time off, paid parental leave, opportunities to connect virtually and in-person, and more.

  • We embrace our team’s diversity of thought, experience, and interests and know that doing so makes us stronger as a company. Carrum has an active employee-led Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) committee alongside several employee resource groups (ERGs) that support parents, women, and various underrepresented groups.

  • You’ll feel proud that the work you do each day directly impacts people’s lives in big and meaningful ways.

  • Carrum is remote-first, but we believe the best work often happens in person. This role may include occasional travel for team offsites, client events, or company gatherings.

Other benefits:

  • Stock option plan and performance bonus for eligible employees

  • Flexible schedules and remote work

  • Chicago and San Francisco offices available as an option

  • Flexible PTO, within reason

  • Summer Fridays (sign off @ 1pm local time)

  • 15+ paid holidays, including Juneteenth, World Mental Health Day, and Carrum Health Day

  • Annual holiday shutdown in December

  • Paid parental leave

  • Health, vision, and dental insurance

  • Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)

  • 401K retirement plan
