About the Role:

As an Engineering Manager on our Technology team, you will own technical direction and execution for the Insurance Operational Excellence problem space building scalable services and integrations, raising engineering standards and developing a high-performing team that can consistently deliver customer and partner outcomes.

To drive success in this role, you will have strong hands-on technical excellence, experience designing and operating production systems and a track record of mentoring engineers and building high-performing engineering teams. As the Engineering Manager you will drive product delivery and cultivate a high-ownership team culture, while actively contributing code to our applications and services across our TypeScript/NestJS and Python/Django stack. Regular collaboration with Product, Engineering stakeholders and Operational partners will be key in ensuring roadmap outcomes and measurable improvements in insurance operational performance are achieved.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead roadmap execution by turning product goals into an executable plan and delivering predictable outcomes.

  • Build and develop a high-performing team through hiring and coaching. Set a high bar for quality and ownership.

  • Own technical excellence by building and contributing code to the existing core services and integrations in TypeScript and Python while keeping maintainable software architecture and strong test coverage

  • Own reliability of the developed services by setting SLOs where needed and improving observability.

  • Deliver secure, compliant integrations with internal and external systems with robust patterns (auth, idempotency, retries, reconciliation, auditability) and security-by-design.

  • Drive measurable operational KPIs by reducing manual work and improving automation.

  • Lead and guide the team to evaluate and integrate AI tools to improve the team metrics such as productivity, quality and velocity.

What you will bring:

  • Minimum 5 years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years leading or managing engineers in a product-oriented, high-availability environment.

  • Strong backend expertise ideally in TypeScript (NestJS) and Python (Django), building and operating APIs and services with high quality bars (testing, CI/CD, security, performance).

  • Proven system design and integration experience, including distributed systems patterns (observability, resilience, idempotency, retries, reconciliation) and modern cloud-native tooling.

  • Delivery leadership and product partnership skills: ability to plan, execute, and communicate against measurable outcomes.

  • Demonstrated expertise in building AI agentic systems to drive complex, non-linear workflow automation.

  • Experience in scalable platform architecture or SaaS development, specifically designing data-intensive solutions.

  • Hands-on experience deploying applications and services on cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP) and implementing robust observability tooling (ideally using Datadog) to monitor SLOs and ensure production-grade operational maturity.

  • Industry and emerging-tech exposure: experience in insurance/insurtech and/or partner-heavy regulated domains is highly valued.

What you will have:

  • You take responsibility for outcomes end-to-end and follow through on commitments with transparency.

  • You move work forward decisively, unblock others and keep momentum while maintaining a high quality bar.

  • You align stakeholders through written and verbal updates and can explain technical decisions in business terms.

  • You partner closely with Product, Operations, Data and Design teams, make sound trade-offs and optimize for measurable customer and business impact.

  • You set engineering standards, coach pragmatic system design and insist on maintainable solutions with strong testing and operational readiness.

  • You lead with security and compliance awareness, building trust with insurance partners and internal stakeholders.
