About the Role

Cover Genius is the insurtech for embedded protection. We partner with the world's largest digital companies — including Booking.com, Expedia, Shopify, and Stripe — to deliver insurance and warranty products to hundreds of millions of customers across 60+ countries. Our platform, XCover, is the world's first global distribution platform for embedded insurance.

The Strategic Finance team is looking for a driven individual to build and own a new pricing function within Finance. You will define pricing strategy across our global partner portfolio, structure new and renewal deals, build commercial governance frameworks, and work closely with Business Development, Insurance, Actuarial, Data Science, Strategic Finance, Sales Operations, and Finance Systems teams. Your authority comes from analytical rigour and commercial judgment. You should combine exceptional analytical and commercial skills with deep knowledge of the insurance, fintech, or platform distribution space.

What You'll Do

  • Define and own Cover Genius's pricing strategy across 60+ countries, multiple insurance product lines, and a portfolio spanning Tier 1 global platforms to long-tail partners

  • Work with cross-functional teams to structure new platform deals, drive go-to-market pricing, and optimize portfolio economics across the full margin stack (cost of insurance, commissions, FX, upfront capital, settlement timing, claims)

  • Build a standardized commercial model library — commission, profit share, claims fee, cost-per-quote, and hybrid structures — with built-in margin floors, breakeven thresholds, IRR on upfront capital, and payback periods

  • Establish pricing approval gates and a delegation of authority matrix for commercial terms by deal size and risk tier

  • Operate veto authority over commercial models: approve, modify, or block partner launches and pricing changes based on profitability thresholds

  • Own renewal pricing playbooks with uplift frameworks, walk-away thresholds, and escalation triggers

  • Build and maintain portfolio margin dashboards by partner cohort, product type, and geography

  • Conduct profitability analysis across partners, products, segments, and competitors to identify risks, opportunities, and optimization levers

  • Provide negotiation support and commercial intelligence to BD teams — internal benchmarking, external market rate analysis, and scenario modelling

  • Partner with Data Science and Actuarial teams on drivers of pricing and commercial performance

  • Be the "face" of the pricing function to internal and external partners

What We Look For

  • Builder mentality — you are energized by creating a function from scratch, defining its mandate, and earning its authority

  • Strong sense of ownership and intellectual curiosity in a fast-paced, global, and often ambiguous environment

  • Ability to hold a line on pricing governance when commercial pressure pushes back — while maintaining productive relationships with the teams you govern

Experience

  • 8+ years in pricing, commercial strategy, deal economics, or merchant/partner pricing (fintech, insurtech, platform, payments, consulting, investment banking, or deal desk)

  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders (C-suite, regional VPs, BD leadership) without positional authority — this role earns its mandate through quality of work, not org chart

  • Deep understanding of multi-party economics — margin stacks involving multiple counterparties (e.g., merchant ↔ platform ↔ capital provider, or insurer ↔ distributor ↔ underwriter)

  • Proficient with analytical tools (SQL, Excel/Sheets, BI tools) — bonus for Python or R

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative discipline (Finance, Economics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Engineering)

Preferred Experience

  • Insurance or embedded insurance exposure — understanding of GWP, loss ratios, claims economics, underwriter dynamics, and regulatory pricing constraints

  • Experience in a scaling environment ($100M–$1B+ revenue or premium range) where pricing complexity is growing faster than the org’s ability to manage it

  • Merchant pricing, partner economics, or deal desk leadership at a platform fintech

  • Management consulting with a pricing or commercial strategy practice

*The cash compensation range for this role is $100,000- $150,000. Compensation will vary based on experience.
