As Senior Director, Partnerships — China Platforms, you will build and lead Cover Genius's dedicated China export team from the ground up, based in Hong Kong. Reporting to the Chief Business Officer, APAC, you will own the commercial strategy for Greater China platforms scaling internationally — growing existing partnerships and winning new strategic accounts to expand into the US, EU, LATAM, and SEA.
This is a greenfield leadership role. You will hire and lead a cross-functional team across business development, partner growth, and client solutions, and serve as the face of Cover Genius within the Chinese export ecosystem. The role requires deep connections within the Chinese platform ecosystem, Mandarin fluency, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory and commercial environments across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
Own the commercial strategy for Chinese platforms - export and international business, prioritising Travel and eCommerce verticals
Identify, qualify, and close complex new partnership deals with high-priority named account targets
Grow existing Tier 1 partnerships by driving multi-market expansion, new product launches, and deeper integration across XCover.
Articulate and position Cover Genius's embedded insurance value proposition at C-suite and senior decision-maker level.
Navigate regulatory and compliance requirements inherent to this market
Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Legal, Compliance, Client Solutions Engineering, and Insurance Partnerships to ensure deals are structured correctly and delivered on time.
Build and maintain a robust pipeline of acquisition and growth opportunities.
Represent Cover Genius at key industry events and within the Chinese export ecosystem to build brand presence and generate new partner opportunities.
Report to executive leadership on team performance, pipeline health, market insights, and risks — acting as the internal authority on the Chinese export segment.
Skills & Experience
What you will bring:
10+ years of experience in partnerships, business development, or commercial leadership within insurance, insurtech, fintech, SaaS, or embedded technology.
Prior experience based in or operating across Greater China, and with Chinese technology platforms supporting their export and international operations.
Demonstrated track record of closing large, complex enterprise partnership deals and consistently exceeding revenue targets.
Fluent Mandarin speaker with strong written and spoken English; ability to operate at senior levels in both languages.
Deep personal network within the Chinese export platform ecosystem — Travel OTAs, eCommerce platforms, fintech, and/or mobility companies.
Experience building and managing small, high-performance teams in start-up or scale-up environments.
Familiarity with the regulatory landscape relevant to cross-border insurance distribution
Experience managing multi-stakeholder deal processes involving legal, compliance, product, and engineering teams.
What you will have:
Executive presence and first-class communication skills — able to present, negotiate, and influence at level across cultures.
Entrepreneurial mindset: comfortable building from zero, operating with ambiguity, and making decisions without a fully established playbook.
Cross-cultural fluency and the ability to build trusted relationships across Chinese and Western business contexts.
Strong commercial acumen with an ability to translate complex multi-market insurance structures into clear partner value propositions.
Proactive, results-oriented, and driven — with a bias toward action and accountability for outcomes.
Collaborative team player who thrives in a lean, high-growth environment and is not afraid to be hands-on.
Agile mindset with a passion for working in fast-moving technology companies where the strategy evolves with the market.
