Digantara is seeking an Optical Engineer AIT who will be responsible for the precise assembly, alignment, testing, and inspection of optical lenses, lens barrels, optical subsystems, and complete electro-optical payloads. The role requires high attention to detail, strong hands-on skills, and the ability to work in a cleanroom and laboratory environment to support prototype and production builds.

Ideal Candidate:

Someone with expertise in assembly, alignment and testing of electro-optical payloads or ground telescopes for high resolution astronomy.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assemble optical lenses, mirrors, filters and mechanical fixtures & mounts as per optical drawings and work instructions.

  • Apply adhesives, spacers, shims, and alignment features following process specifications.

  • Integrate optical assemblies into opto-mechanical structures, barrels, or sensor modules.

  • Perform precision alignment using collimators and optical benches.

  • Perform torque-controlled fastener tightening to avoid stress on lenses and mirrors.

  • Conduct optical tests such as MTF, centration, focus accuracy, collimation, bore sighting, stray light checks.

  • Verify compliance with specifications including centration error, air gaps, wavefront error, and surface quality.

  • Follow strict contamination control procedures when handling coated optics.

  • Document test results, maintain build reports, and generate inspection records

 

Required Qualification

  • Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in Optics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, or any related field.

  • 5 to 10 years of industry experience in the optical systems assembly, alignment and testing.

  • Experience with optical benches, interferometers, collimators and MTF stations

 

Preferred Skills

 

·       Understanding of optical components: Lenses, Filters, Mirrors, Apertures.

·       Experience assembling optical systems with micron-level precision.

·       Knowledge of adhesive curing, alignment techniques, and optical handling.

·       Ability to read optical and mechanical drawings.

·       Familiarity with metrology tools: Interferometer, Collimator, Profilometer.
