Technician - Electronics Integration

Job type: Full Time · Department: Engineering · Work type: On-Site

Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

Digantara is a leading Space Surveillance and Intelligence company focused on ensuring orbital safety and sustainability. With expertise in space-based detection, tracking, identification, and monitoring, Digantara provides comprehensive domain awareness across regimes, allowing end users to have actionable intelligence on a single platform. At the core of its infrastructure lies a sophisticated integration of hardware and software capabilities aligned with the key principles of situational awareness: perception (data collection), comprehension (data processing), and prediction (analytics). This holistic approach empowers Digantara to monitor all Resident Space Objects (RSOs) in orbit, fostering comprehensive domain awareness.

Digantara is looking for a passionate Lead-FPGA/RTL Design engineer to develop reliable, robust and reusable RTL modules for satellite payload, which is capable of image acquisition and edge processing, aimed at Space Situational Awareness (SSA). The Lead engineer will be responsible for mentoring a team of RTL design engineers.

Why Us:

  • Competitive incentives, galvanizing workspace, blazing team, frequent outings—pretty much everything you have heard about a startup + you get to work on space technology.

  • Hustle in a well-funded startup allowing you to take charge of your responsibilities and create your moonshot.

    Ideal Candidate:

A skilled electronics technician with 3 to 8 years of hands-on build experience in aerospace, defence, or other high-reliability manufacturing, who can build circular connector harnesses to drawing and have them pass inspection first time.

    Responsibilities:

  • Build, route, and install spacecraft interface harnesses to drawing and work instruction, including D38999 connector assembly, contact crimping, shield termination, backshell assembly, and strain relief.

  • Build and maintain the cabling between the vendor-supplied checkout system and the spacecraft: umbilical harnesses, interface adapters, breakout cabling, and thermal vacuum feedthrough harnesses.

  • Perform continuity, pin-to-pin, and insulation resistance verification on every harness and test cable before connection to flight hardware, and record results.

  • Perform mechanical and electrical integration of payload and subsystems into the spacecraft: torque-controlled fastening, bonding and grounding, connector mate and demate, and cable dressing.

  • Assemble, solder, and rework PCBs and electronic assemblies to IPC standards, including through-hole and surface-mount components and conformal coating touch-up.

  • Support vendor installation, commissioning, and acceptance activities on site, including rack placement, cable routing, and spacecraft-side connection under supervision.

  • Support test campaigns on the floor - setup, teardown, and configuration changes between phases - and maintain ESD, FOD, and cleanroom discipline throughout.

Required Qualifications:

  • ITI/Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, or a related trade; degree holders with strong hands-on build experience are welcome.

  • 3 to 8 years of hands-on experience in electronics assembly, harness manufacture, or hardware integration in a controlled manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated experience with circular connector assembly and wire termination - crimping to specification with correct tooling, contact retention verification, and shield and backshelltermination. MIL-spec connector experience required.

  • Demonstrated soldering and rework skill on through-hole and surface-mount assemblies, including fine-pitch devices.

  • Ability to read and work from assembly drawings, wiring schematics, harness drawings, and written work instructions without interpretation.

  • Competence with basic test equipment for continuity, resistance, and insulation verification.

  • Understanding of ESD control requirements and correct handling of static-sensitive devices.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certification in IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, or IPC-7711/7721 is strongly preferred; equivalent in-house qualification will be considered.

  • Prior experience building or integrating satellite, launch vehicle, or airborne hardware.

  • Experience with space-grade harness practice: lacing, cable tying to specification, staking, and bonding.

  • Experience with thermal vacuum chamber feedthroughs and chamber-side cabling.

  • Experience supporting installation or commissioning of test equipment or GSE on site.

  • Familiarity with cleanroom protocols (ISO 7/ISO 8) and handling optical payload is an added advantage.

  • Familiarity with non-conformance and rework processes under configuration control.

General Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a mission-focused, operational environment.

  • Willingness to stop work and escalate when something does not look right on flight hardware.

  • Interpersonal skills to enable working in a diverse and dynamic team.

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule, with flexibility during integration and test campaigns.

  • Ability to perform close-tolerance bench work under magnification for extended periods.

  • Verbal and written communications skills as well as organizational skills.

  • Travel occasionally as necessary.
