DEME is looking for a Gearbox (Reliability) Expert to become the technical authority for complex mechanical and power transmission systems across DEME’s global fleet.

In this role, you will investigate critical mechanical failures, identify their root causes, and develop engineering solutions that improve long-term reliability and prevent recurring issues. You’ll work on complex systems including gearboxes, bearings, propulsion systems, jack-up systems, rack & pinion systems, and other power transmission equipment.

What you bring:

• A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline

• 10+ years of relevant experience in heavy mechanical engineering, heavy industry, marine, offshore, or similar environments

• Strong expertise in mechanical power transmission systems, particularly gearboxes, gears, bearings, and propulsion systems

• Proven experience with mechanical calculations, including loads, force balances, stress distributions, and fatigue behaviour

• Experience with Root Cause Analysis, failure investigation, reliability engineering, or design validation

• Strong understanding of failure mechanisms such as gear tooth damage, pitting, contact fatigue, and tooth root strength

• Ability to translate engineering calculations into practical structural and design solutions

• Experience working with OEMs and suppliers and the confidence to challenge technical solutions when required

• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on calculations, physics, and engineering judgement

• End-to-end mentality and a desire to see engineering recommendations implemented and validated
