Senior Product Designer

Job type: Full Time · Department: Product Design · Work type: Hybrid · USD 150,000-185,000 / year

New York, New York, United States

Our Mission

We’re building infrastructure for modern healthcare delivery.

Traditional healthcare is plagued with outdated, monolithic EHRs designed to maximize billing outcomes. Patient outcomes and provider experiences have been afterthoughts, as these systems have bolted on non-API-first solutions. None of this is built for how clinically excellent healthcare is actually delivered—longitudinally and collaboratively, with the patient at the center.

Healthie is the world’s leading API-first, ONC-Certified EHR for healthcare delivery outside of the hospital. We provide the powerful infrastructure every scaling organization needs—EHR, scheduling, patient engagement, billing, and more—all accessible via modern APIs and a white-labeled UI. Our platform makes it simple for organizations of any size to launch, customize, and scale their care delivery models without reinventing the wheel.

Today, over 2 billion API calls are made to Healthie every month, as thousands of organizations—working with more than 20 million patients in total—rely on Healthie to deliver clinically excellent healthcare in over 35 specialties, from preventative medicine to complex chronic care management.

We believe in the power of technology to improve access to healthcare—and we’re building the rails that make this a reality. We work fast and with quality because we provide business-critical, healthcare-critical software that clinicians and patients need for a better healthcare system. We’re customer-obsessed, operate with lightning-fast processes and responses, make our product roadmap public so customers can see what we’re building, and remain relentlessly focused on how care gets delivered.

Healthie is backed by leading investors, and while we've $42M raised to date, more importantly, we operate with fiscal responsibility and have been profitable for more than half of our time as a company.

About the role

We're hiring a Senior Product Designer to join our Product Design Team. You'll work alongside Product Designers, partner closely with the Director of Product Design, and collaborate daily with our cross-functional partners in Engineering and Product to shape the platform that thousands of healthcare organizations — and over 20 million patients — rely on every day.

Healthie sits at a rare intersection: a genuinely complex industry, an API-first product with real technical depth, and a customer base of clinicians and operators who care deeply about how their tools feel to use. For a designer who loves the craft of taking something dense and making it feel effortless, this is one of the most rewarding canvases in healthtech.

What you'll do:

  • Champion design vision and execution for the areas you own — from early problem framing through interactive prototyping to engineering handoff and post-launch iteration.

  • Partner with Product and Engineering across the full lifecycle — from understanding the real problem behind a brief and identifying actual requirements, to recognizing anti-patterns, weighing feasibility and trade-offs, and shaping a phased build plan that's both ambitious and realistic.

  • Translate complexity into intuitive experiences — clinical workflows, billing logic, and regulatory constraints absorbed into interfaces that feel calm and obvious to use.

  • Bring exceptional visual craft to every screen, every state, and every flow.

  • Evolve our design system as a natural part of every feature you ship. Design systems maintenance and evolution is an integrated aspect of our feature design process — every feature you ship makes the system stronger.

  • Mentor designers on the team — pairing on work, giving thoughtful feedback in critique, and modeling the standards we hold ourselves to.

How we work:

  • Figma fluency is assumed at this level of experience. Day-to-day, though, we work in something newer — a cutting-edge, AI-accelerated design workflow built around real-code interactive prototyping. This is where the industry is heading next, and we've moved early.

  • Most candidates haven't worked this way before — that's expected. If you bring the design instincts and the curiosity, we'll bring the tools and the training.

  • We're small, senior, and tightly cross-functional. We care deeply about craft and detail, we move quickly, and we treat our design system as a living, evolving asset that grows stronger with every feature.

If you want to do the best work of your career on a product that meaningfully changes how care gets delivered — and on a team that's serious about craft, simplicity, and impact — we'd love to meet you.

At Healthie, we are AI-enabled and AI-accelerated in how we build. We are looking for team members who actively leverage AI-powered development tools, embrace automation, and help teams adopt modern, AI-assisted engineering practices to increase velocity and quality.

About you

Need to have

  • 5–8 years as a product designer at a fast-paced, design-led software company.

  • Exceptional visual design fundamentals. Your portfolio shows discipline in type, hierarchy, layout, spacing, color, and polish across every screen and every state. You have a mastery of design principles — you understand the rules of design well enough to discern if, when, and how to break them.

  • Deep knowledge of best-in-class UX patterns and the ability to recognize anti-patterns. You can look at an interface and immediately see where the design has drifted from established best practice, and you know how to research and articulate the right solution.

  • Advanced systems thinking, with hands-on experience building and maintaining a functional design system. You have experience maintaining and evolving a functioning design system — establishing patterns, documenting them, partnering with front-end engineering on implementation, and propagating consistency across a large product surface.

  • The ability to absorb complex, compliance-heavy subject matter and translate it into intuitive interfaces. You build deep mental models of unfamiliar domains quickly, then design as if the domain were second nature to your users.

  • Prescriptive solutions delivered with discernment. You ship the right solution for the problem, aligned with best-practice design patterns and grounded in clear rationale. You partner with PM and Engineering to weigh trade-offs between a quick fix and a heavier lift, and you bring a confident point of view to every project.

  • Self-motivated and driven. You take initiative on the design opportunities you see across the platform, while keeping your work aligned with the design vision set by the Director of Product Design and R&D leadership. You're energized by the chance to identify and realign inconsistencies, and to radically simplify complexity into intuitive user experiences.

  • Lived experience working cross-functionally inside a large R&D organization. You've partnered daily with Product Managers, Engineers, and other Designers across multiple squads, and you know how to bring partners in early and turn cross-functional conversations into better outcomes.

  • A strong foundation in HTML and CSS fundamentals. You understand and can discuss flexbox, CSS Grid, layout primitives, responsive behavior, semantics, and accessibility well enough to design with the medium rather than against it.

Nice to have

  • Experience in healthcare, fintech, legal tech, insurance, or other regulated, high-complexity domains. Healthtech or EHR experience is a plus.

  • Experience using AI-assisted design tools or real-code prototyping workflows.

  • A clear personal point of view on craft, design culture, and how great design teams operate.
