Intramotev is seeking a motivated Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer to join the development team to meet growing demands in the development of self-propelled rail vehicles.
This role focuses on the complex mechanical integration of electric propulsion systems—including motors and gearboxes—with railcar axles and bogie structures.
At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
5+ years of experience in electromechanical/multidisciplinary product design.
Proficiency in 3D mechanical design using Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD tools.
Proven experience with structural analysis (FEA) and GD&T.
Will to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise; ability to develop innovative and novel approaches.
Open-minded and comfortable working in a teaming environment as a technical leader.
Fluent in both written and verbal English.
Experience with Rail Vehicles, Bogie Architectures, or Braking Systems.
Direct experience with EV Powertrain integration, including e-axle development.
Knowledge of thermal management systems for power electronics and motors.
Demonstrated experience working across organizational boundaries and leading technical teams.
Lead the mechanical integration of supplier-provided electric motors and gearboxes into existing railcar bogie architectures.
Translate powertrain requirements into detailed interface specifications, focusing on axle integration and clearance for brake linkages.
Design and optimize mounting solutions and enclosures for propulsion components within the highly constrained environment of a rail bogie.
Perform structural and stress analysis using CAD and FEA tools to ensure integrated components withstand heavy rail operational loads.
Lead functional and operational testing of the integrated drivetrain to ensure performance and safety requirements are met.
Collaborate with electrical and software teams to define functional interfaces for motor control and thermal management.
Provide comprehensive support for fielded systems, resolving integration or performance issues throughout the product lifecycle.
Work within dynamic teams of 3-10 members on diverse projects.
Foster excellent interpersonal and communication skills to thrive in a collaborative environment.
Adapt to evolving project objectives and requirements as the technology advances.
Engage in occasional domestic travel to support integration, demonstration, and customer interactions.
Manage the packaging constraints of brake linkages, structural frames, and thermal systems.
