About the role
You will be joining a strong, high performing AI native design team organized into three pillars: Platform, Intelligence & Analytics, and Conversational Agentic Experiences (Voice & SMS).

As a Staff Design Engineer, you’ll work horizontally across all three pillars to define and build the next generation of Invoca experiences. You’ll concept, prototype, and build—from early ideas to production experiences—using design, code, AI, and emerging technologies as creative tools.

This role has two areas of ownership:

• Define AI experience paradigms
  Shape how customers and partners interact across our product areas, including agents, conversational intelligence experiences, copilots, and emerging interaction models. Explore new technologies and protocols, including A2UI, and translate them into experiences that are useful, intuitive, and trustworthy.

• Define and execute horizontal user journeys
  Own high-impact experiences that span our product pillars and directly influence adoption, new logo activation, and engagement—including onboarding, evaluation experiences, billing, and other critical customer journeys.

This is as much a strategy role as it is an execution role. You’ll partner as a peer with Product and Engineering to directly influence how customers discover, adopt, understand, and get value from Invoca. You’ll also partner closely with your peers within the design team and the Head of Product Design to create abstractions and patterns that other designers and engineers can build upon.

You’ll bring a high bar for craft while contributing to our evolving design systems and libraries. You’ll know when to leverage existing patterns, when to extend them, and when to create something entirely new.

What you’ll do

Explore and prototype the future using code, AI, and emerging technologies—including evolving protocols such as A2UI.

• Spot the P0 problems other people haven't seen yet, and make the case for why they matter without being handed a brief.

• Bring energy and craft to build horizontal experiences that make complex workflows feel simple, particularly across AI, data, analytics, and revenue workflows.

• Partner closely with our design system team to create reusable components, interaction patterns, and abstractions that scale across products.

• Partner closely with Engineering on frontend architecture, implementation quality and accessibility.

• Raise the bar for craft across interaction design, visual design, motion, and product quality.

• Influence product direction beyond your immediate team through strong product judgment, technical expertise, and vision.

• Mentor and elevate others around you just by how you work, no direct reports required.

Who you are:

You’re equally energized by designing an interaction and building it.

You may have started in product design and become deeply technical, or started in engineering and developed exceptional product and design instincts. You know when to use design, when to write code, and when to bring the two together. You come with -

• Craft: You have a high bar for interaction, visual design, and implementation quality, with a portfolio that demonstrates it.

• High agency: You navigate ambiguity, create clarity, and move work forward without waiting for direction.

• Team impact: You think beyond your own work and proactively raise the capabilities, quality, and craft of the people around you.

• Collaboration: You communicate clearly and work effectively across Product, Design, and Engineering.

Minimum requirements

• 8+ years of experience across product design, design engineering, frontend engineering, or a related discipline.

• Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility, performance, and frontend architecture demonstrated through a design portfolio or GitHub link or similar tools. 

• Experience designing AI-powered or AI-native products, particularly agents, conversational interfaces, or intelligent workflows ideally with agentic development tools to accelerate product delivery. 

• Significant experience designing and shipping production web applications.

• Experience supporting or evolving design systems, component architectures, and reusable patterns.

• Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility, performance, and frontend architecture.

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge of modern frontend technologies such as React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

• Experience with complex enterprise, data-rich, analytics, or workflow products.

• Experience with animation, advanced interaction and data visualization.

• Experience establishing Design Technologist or Design Engineering practices.

• Experience with A/B testing and accessibility

What success looks like
In your first 3 months, you will have:

• Established a point of view on emerging AI experience paradigms at Invoca.

• Built relationships and credibility across Product, Design, and Engineering.

• Redesigned and shipped 2 high-impact end to end horizontal opportunities within the Invoca product platform showcasing strong visual design and implementation quality. 

• Introduced patterns, paradigms or abstractions that improve the quality and consistency of the end product. 

• Raised the bar for craft and technical execution by accelerating the path from design to shipped experience.

📍 Location: This is a remote-first role. We are currently hiring in the following locations with a preference for talent located in the SF Bay Area: 📍

United States: Greater Los Angeles Area (including Santa Barbara and San Diego) · SF Bay Area · Denver Metro · Austin Metro · Chicago Metro · Greater NYC Area · Seattle Metro

Candidates must be based within ~2 hour drive of these areas. Occasional business travel may be required.

Compensation

• Base Salary: $175,000–$230,000*

• Variable Compensation: Bonus and/or commission eligibility, where applicable.

• Equity: All employees are invited to share in Invoca's success through our stock option program.

*Actual compensation will depend on factors including experience, skills, and location.
