About Pebble

Pebble is a sustainable living startup defining a new way to live, work, and explore from anywhere with a 100% electric, hassle-free RV trailer. Built by a team of experts in both automotive and consumer technology, Pebble combines electrification with cutting-edge automotive technology for a travel trailer experience that removes the hassles RV trailer owners have struggled with for decades.

At Pebble, we are building out the future of lighter, more flexible living. We see a world where your home can be anywhere you want to take it. Pebble blends the best of what it means to be at home, on the road, and off-grid into something useful and magical. This is a collective effort our team is dedicated to making not just products, but a lifestyle that is truly sustainable.

If the idea of building out the future sparks your imagination and intersects with your skills, we'd love to meet you.

Role Overview

Pebble is seeking a Senior HV & Drivetrain Engineer to own the design, integration, and continuous improvement of our high voltage systems with a primary focus on electric motor systems, inverters, and drivetrain architecture. You will be a key technical voice in how power is generated, converted, stored, and delivered across the Pebble Flow platform.

This is a hands-on, high-ownership role embedded in a fast-moving hardware team. You will work across the full product lifecycle from concept and simulation through prototype, validation, and production collaborating closely with electrical, thermal, firmware, and manufacturing engineers to deliver a reliable, high-performance drivetrain in a compact, weight-sensitive form factor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the design and development of HV drivetrain systems, with primary focus on electric motors, inverters, and motor control strategies

  • Select, characterize, and qualify motors and inverters for traction and auxiliary applications, including supplier evaluation and bring-up

  • Define motor control algorithms and work with firmware teams on inverter tuning, and efficiency optimization

  • Design and validate HV power distribution architecture including battery interface, contactor logic, pre-charge circuits, and HV harness

  • Drive DFMEA, fault tree analysis, and safety case development for drivetrain and HV components; ensure compliance with ISO 26262 and relevant HV safety standards

  • Define and execute component-level and system-level validation plans; support test bench setup, HIL integration, and field validation

  • Diagnose and resolve field issues related to motor performance, HV system faults, and drivetrain reliability

  • Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain on DFM, assembly processes, and supplier quality for HV components

  • Contribute to long-term drivetrain architecture roadmap, including next-generation motor topologies, regenerative braking strategy, and platform scalability

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in automotive or industrial electrical/electromechanical engineering, with significant focus on HV systems

  • Deep hands-on expertise in electric motor systems — including PMSM, BLDC, or induction motor topologies — and associated inverter hardware

  • Strong understanding of motor control theory: torque/speed control, encoder/resolver feedback, and sensorless strategies

  • Experience with HV power electronics design: DC/DC converters, motor drive circuits, gate drivers, and switching device selection (SiC/IGBT)

  • Proficiency in HV system architecture: battery interfaces, HV interlocks, isolation monitoring, contactor sequencing, and grounding schemes

  • Familiarity with relevant safety standards: ISO 26262, IEC 61851, UN ECE R100, or equivalent automotive HV standards

  • Experience taking HV drivetrain hardware from concept through validation and production release

  • Hands-on lab skills: oscilloscope, power analyzer, thermal camera, dynamometer testing, and HV safety protocols

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills — able to work effectively with firmware, thermal, mechanical, and manufacturing teams

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in EV, electrified trailer, or mobile energy storage applications

  • Familiarity with CAN/LIN communication for inverter and BMS integration

  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools for motor control modeling and simulation

  • Knowledge of regenerative braking architectures and energy recovery optimization

  • Exposure to NACS/CCS charging standards and bidirectional charging (V2X/V2L) system design

  • Experience with motor NVH characterization and acoustic optimization

  • Track record of mentoring junior engineers or leading small technical workstreams
