About the Role

Pebble is looking for a Manager of Manufacturing Quality Engineering to lead and grow our quality engineering function as we scale toward full production. In this role, you will manage a team of Manufacturing Quality Engineers and own the end-to-end quality strategy across our assembly and production operations. You will serve as the senior quality voice in cross-functional discussions, partnering closely with Design, Manufacturing, and Production leadership to ensure that quality is built into every stage of our process — not just inspected at the end.

This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-moving startup environment, can build systems from the ground up, and is passionate about delivering a world-class product.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Manufacturing Quality Engineers, setting clear goals and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement

  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations to grow team members professionally

  • Allocate team resources effectively across projects, priorities, and production needs

Quality Strategy & Systems

  • Define and own Pebble's overall manufacturing quality strategy, including IQC, IPQC, and OQC frameworks and performance metrics

  • Establish and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS) to meet automotive-grade standards at startup scale

  • Drive the development and standardization of quality inspection tools, control plans, and measurement technologies across the production line

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Serve as the primary quality engineering partner to Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Production leadership

  • Ensure design drawings, manufacturing instructions, inspection instructions, and tooling are aligned and complete across all teams

  • Represent the quality function in executive-level reviews, providing data-driven insights on quality trends, risks, and improvement opportunities

Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and oversee root cause investigations, corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), and Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) to full resolution

  • Champion the use of structured QA methodologies (FMEA, fishbone, DoE, SPC) across the team

  • Chair Material Review Board (MRB) meetings, driving timely disposition of nonconforming materials and quarantined units

Reporting & Metrics

  • Define and track qualitative and quantitative quality KPIs; deliver weekly and monthly reports to leadership

  • Develop dashboards and reporting systems that surface trends, patterns, and emerging risks to internal stakeholders

Experience & Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in manufacturing quality engineering, with at least 2 years in a people management or team lead capacity

  • Deep expertise in automotive quality systems, GD&T, and manufacturing quality methodologies (FMEA, SPC, DoE, process capability)

  • Demonstrated success leading MRB processes, managing SCARs, and driving CAPAs to closure

  • Experience building or scaling a quality function in a startup or early-stage manufacturing environment strongly preferred

  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and communicate effectively at all levels of an organization

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills with a bias toward action

  • BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or similar discipline); MS a plus
