Medical Lead Consultant - Freelance

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a freelance Medical Lead to anchor clinical excellence across our telehealth platform. The role involves owning clinical quality end-to-end, setting standards, auditing adherence, growing the medical team, and acting as the final point of review for complex patient escalations.
You will work closely with the product, operations, and data teams to ensure our care delivery is safe, scalable, data-driven, and aligned with regulatory requirements.
This is a consultant role requiring availability for 12 days per month. Preference will be given to candidates who are available to work from the office and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Clinical Quality & Audit
Design and own the clinical audit framework — periodic case reviews, prescription audits, and outcome tracking across all consult types.
Identify patterns of deviation from best practice and initiate corrective action plans.
Maintain audit logs and report clinical KPIs to leadership on a defined cadence.
2. Clinical Protocols & Governance
Develop, document, and periodically review evidence-based clinical protocols for all conditions and specialities on the platform.
Ensure protocols are compliant with applicable regulations and medical council guidelines.
Serve as the clinical signatory for new service lines before go-live.
Collaborate with the product team to embed protocols into clinical workflows, decision-support tools, and EMR templates.
Continuously evaluate evolving guidelines and translate them into protocol revisions
Support operations teams in handling regulatory requirements, audits, and compliance-related queries.
Contribute to clinical content creation, including guidelines, patient education materials, and FAQs.
3. Medical Team Hiring & Development
Own end-to-end recruitment for doctors — define competency frameworks, screen candidates, conduct structured interviews, and make hiring recommendations.
Build and maintain a qualified panel of specialists and general practitioners aligned with platform growth.
Run onboarding, periodic clinical training, and performance reviews for medical staff.
Mentor junior doctors and foster a culture of continuous learning and clinical excellence.
4. Patient Escalation Management
Act as the senior clinical escalation point for complex, high-risk, or patient-safety-related cases.
Establish and own the escalation playbook — triage criteria, SLAs, documentation standards, and resolution pathways.
Conduct root-cause analysis on adverse events and near-misses; drive preventive action.
5. Product
Partner with product teams to provide clinical guidance on new features, AI-assisted tools, and care pathway design.
Provide inputs to build a top-notch EMR product to enable our doctors to do seamless teleconsultations,
Collaborate with product and data teams to define meaningful clinical metrics and feedback mechanisms.
6. Research & Analytics
Leverage available real-time consultation and health check-up data, along with research and analytics, to identify trends, workflow gaps, and opportunities to improve care delivery.
Analyse clinical and operational data to improve app workflows, platform efficiency, and patient outcomes.
Generate actionable clinical insights through research and data analysis to support product and operational decision-making.
Work with cross-functional teams to develop data-driven approaches to improve the quality of care and the user experience.
An MBBS doctor with 4-5 years of clinical experience and overall 10 years of experience.
Prior experience in a telehealth, digital health, or health-tech organisation.
Exposure to regulatory compliance — telemedicine guidelines, data privacy (DPDP / HIPAA), or NABH standards.
Familiarity with EMR systems, clinical decision-support tools, or AI-assisted diagnostics.
