About us

Relay is a cross-chain payments protocol that provides instant, low-cost cross-chain bridging, swaps, and transactions. We're the fastest and cheapest way to bridge and transact across chains, serving over 5 million users who have completed 59+ million transactions with $6+ billion in volume across 85+ chains.

Our company mission is to make transacting across chains as fast, cheap, and reliable as online payments. We are building the core infrastructure to abstract chains from end user payments, enabling the next billion users to experience the benefits of blockchain without the UX burdens.

We are looking for candidates who are currently located in or can work full-time in the Americas timezones or equivalent (UTC-3 through UTC-10).

About the role

Every transaction our users make passes through infrastructure that has to be fast, reliable, and secure across a sprawling multi-chain environment. Our infrastructure team currently handles everything from Kubernetes cluster management and GitOps deployment pipelines to RPC proxy infrastructure, database operations, and the data pipelines that power analytics and observability.

In this role, you'll own real systems from day one: deploying services, managing cloud infrastructure, and responding to incidents on 24/7 financial infrastructure. Over time, you'll share ownership of infrastructure domains and help define how the team scales.

What you'll do

Keep the platform running

  • Manage Kubernetes clusters and deployment pipelines across development, staging, production, and testnet environments

  • Diagnose infrastructure incidents, coordinate with engineering teams, and drive to resolution

  • Monitor alerts, review dashboards, and continuously improve our ability to detect and resolve issues before they become customer-facing

  • Maintain, extend and optimize our RPC proxy infrastructure

  • Identify and implement optimizations that reduce latency and cost at scale

Support engineering teams

  • Review and merge infrastructure configuration changes from backend and data engineering teams

  • Help teams deploy new services and onboard to existing infrastructure patterns

  • Be a go-to resource for unblocking infrastructure-related questions across the org

Build and improve the infrastructure foundation

  • Maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment tooling that engineering teams rely on daily

  • Manage data infrastructure used by the analytics and indexing stack

  • Contribute to security and reliability improvements: secrets management, access controls, deploy pipeline hardening

About you

  • You've run production infrastructure at a company where downtime had real consequences

  • You're comfortable being on-call and operating in environments where you can't always reproduce the issue locally

  • You have a get-it-done attitude when it comes to working across the stack

  • You document your work because you know future-you and your teammates will need it

  • You thrive in a small team where you own things end-to-end rather than waiting for someone else to define your lane

  • You're curious about crypto and the unique infrastructure challenges that come with it: multi-chain environments, 24/7 financial systems, and adversarial conditions

Skills and abilities

  • 4+ years in an infrastructure, DevOps, or platform engineering role

  • Production Kubernetes experience (EKS, GKE, or equivalent) including cluster management, networking, and workload operations

  • GitOps deployment workflows (ArgoCD, Flux, or similar)

  • Cloud infrastructure ownership (AWS strongly preferred): VPCs, EKS, EC2, KMS, IAM, and related services

  • CI/CD pipeline management (GitHub Actions or equivalent)

  • PostgreSQL in production: schema migrations, query optimization, incident response

  • Infrastructure-as-code and Terraform

Nice to have

  • Blockchain or crypto infrastructure experience: RPC node management, multi-chain environments, or chain indexing systems

  • ClickHouse or other columnar/OLAP database experience

  • Event streaming infrastructure (Kafka, Debezium, or equivalent)

  • Security-focused infrastructure experience: secrets management, deploy pipeline security, access controls

What we offer

  • Competitive base salary

  • Equity package

  • Comprehensive health benefits

  • Unlimited PTO policy with encouraged minimum

  • Remote-first culture with emphasis on collaboration, communication, and flexibility
