Product Manager, Chanakya

Job type: Full Time · Department: Product · Work type: On-Site

Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

About Sarvam

Sarvam is building the bedrock of Sovereign AI for India. The company is developing India's full-stack sovereign AI platform, building across research, models, infrastructure and applications with a singular focus on making AI genuinely work for India. Sarvam works with leading enterprises and public institutions and is backed by Lightspeed, Peak XV, and Khosla Ventures. Sarvam partners with India's leading brands, including Tata Capital, SBI Life, CRED, IDFC, and LIC.

About the Role

This is a critical role in the vertical. You will own the product roadmap for Chanakya’s 'atoms':replicable, deployable AI product components built on top of the Sarvam AI stack. You work at the intersection of client feedback (from the Engagement Principal and Strategic Deployment Engineers),engineering capability (frontend, backend, data science, MLOps), and commercial viability. This role is not for a ticket manager, a scrum master, or a proxy for communication. This will be the person who decides what gets built, why, and in what form, and they own the quality of that decision. The team is lean, the domain is demanding, and there is no room for vague requirements or misaligned expectations.

What You'll Do

  • Own the product roadmap for the Chanakya atom library: wargaming simulator, geospatial visualiser, document ingestion UI, ontology viewer, MCP server, NL access layers, and others as they emerge from field deployments

  • Translate field learnings from deployments into precise product requirements — specifications that engineers can build from without follow-up questions

  • Run structured discovery with defence and complex enterprise clients: understand operational workflows, identify friction points, and define the right problem before proposing a solution

  • Prioritise ruthlessly: decide what matters, why it matters now, and what gets cut

  • Define and track product metrics across atom deployments: adoption, time-to-value, error rates, and operational reliability

  • Write PRDs, specs, and decision logs that create institutional memory for a team moving at speed

  • Coordinate engineering sprints, unblock the team proactively, and manage stakeholder communication

What We're Looking For

  • 4–8 years in product management; at least 2–3 years in B2B or enterprise with direct revenue accountability

  • Track record of shipping monetised products to enterprise clients; you've been in the room when a product didn't meet the bar, and you've fixed it

  • Experience in forward-deployed motions — embedded alongside domain experts like data scientists or strategic deployment engineers — with deep understanding of customer needs

  • Ability to write precise, technically grounded product specs that reduce ambiguity, not create it

  • Experience running structured discovery and user research in enterprise contexts, including with stakeholders who are not used to articulating product requirements

  • Comfort with data: SQL for basic querying, analytics tools, A/B testing fundamentals

  • Sufficient familiarity with AI/LLM product patterns — RAG, agents, embeddings, evaluation — to understand the tradeoffs you're making in the roadmap

Bonus Points

  • Prior work in defence, government, or national security-adjacent domains, or complex regulated enterprise environments

  • Experience with on-prem or air-gapped product constraints

  • Exposure to strategic sector procurement cycles

Signals We Look For

  • Engineers you've worked with describe your specs as clear, complete, and free of assumptions

  • You've said no to a client request and held it diplomatically — with reasoning — without losing the account

  • You've shipped products with real users in high-stakes contexts and owned the outcome when it didn't go to plan

Who You Are

  • You are customer and domain-first. You understand the needs of complex enterprise and strategic sector clients, productise Sarvam's AI stack accordingly, and welcome deep iteration and feedback

  • You move fast — and you know the difference between speed and sloppiness

  • You take accountability for outcomes, not just outputs. A shipped feature that no one uses is not a success on your watch

  • You can hold a room of senior officers and a room of engineers on the same day, and be credible in both

Why Sarvam?

Sarvam is a fast-moving, high talent-density team building full-stack AI for India, working on problems that push the frontiers of AI with real population-scale impact.

  • Work alongside researchers, engineers, builders, and business leaders who move fast and hold each other to a very high bar

  • High ownership and high impact, from day one

  • Everything we do is AI-first, from the way we build and ship to the way we think about problems

  • You can work on problems that could change how an entire country learns, works, and communicates

If you want to work on problems at the frontier of AI in India, Sarvam is the place to be.
