About the role
You will lead hands-on Microsoft Purview implementations for our clients, making their data across Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft 365 and multi-cloud sources discoverable, classified, protected and compliant. This is a client-facing role that owns the governance workstream from assessment to adoption.
Key responsibilities
Implement Microsoft Purview end to end: Data Map, source scanning, collections/domains, Unified Catalog, glossary and lineage.
Configure classifications, sensitivity labels, auto-labeling and DLP across Azure, Fabric, Power BI and Microsoft 365.
Define the governance operating model: owners, stewards, policies and data quality rules.
Map controls to regulations (GDPR, DPDP Act, HIPAA, SOC 2) and report governance KPIs.
Automate onboarding and metadata tasks using Purview APIs, Python or PowerShell.
Support presales with solution design, estimates and demos; train client stewards.
Must-have skills and experience
Non-negotiable: hands-on Microsoft Purview implementation on at least one production project. Candidates without this will not be considered.
8+ years in data engineering, BI or data management, with 3+ years in data governance.
Proven hands-on experience in each of the following:
Purview architecture: account and collection design, integration runtimes, networking and private endpoints.
Catalog and lineage: source scanning, Unified Catalog, glossary and end-to-end lineage.
Data domains: setting up governance domains and data products.
Governance roles: defining and assigning owners, stewards and custodians in Purview.
Classification: built-in and custom classifications, sensitivity labels and auto-labeling.
Data quality and observability setup: data quality rules, scorecards and health monitoring.
Security controls: DLP, access policies, Entra ID and RBAC.
Knowledge transfer: handing over the setup, runbooks and practices to data engineers.
Working knowledge of governance frameworks (DAMA-DMBOK or DCAM) and metadata management practices.
Experience mapping governance controls to regulations such as GDPR, DPDP Act, HIPAA or SOC 2.
Experience governing hybrid and multi-cloud sources (on-prem SQL, AWS S3, Snowflake, Databricks).
Strong Azure data platform knowledge (ADLS Gen2, Azure SQL, Synapse, Data Factory) plus Fabric and Power BI governance.
Strong SQL; Python or PowerShell scripting.
Client-facing delivery: running stakeholder workshops, writing governance policies, managing scope and timelines.
Good-to-have skills and certifications
Certifications: SC-401, DP-600/DP-700, CDMP or DCAM.
Exposure to Collibra, Alation, Informatica or Databricks Unity Catalog.
Purview for AI / DSPM for AI (governing Copilot and AI app data).
BFSI, healthcare or retail domain experience.
