Location: Nairobi, Kenya with travel across East Africa
Experience: 10-15 years, with 5+ years in digital public health

About Us

Wadhwani AI Global (WAIG) is a next-generation AI transformation partner for governments and multilaterals across Africa, Latin America, and Asia. We combine cutting-edge AI products with deep advisory capabilities to unlock large-scale opportunities in health, education, and agriculture.

Role Overview

This role sits at the intersection of public health programs, digital health, partnerships, and regional growth.

We are looking for a senior leader to help build and scale WAIG’s digital health portfolio across Sub-Saharan Africa, with an initial focus on East Africa. Based in Nairobi, you will work with ministries of health, multilaterals, donors, foundations, and implementation partners to identify high-impact opportunities, shape fundable programs, and support the scale-up of AI-enabled health solutions within public health systems.

This is not a pure product role or a pure program delivery role. It is a growth and strategy role for someone who can combine public health expertise, institutional relationship-building, program design, funding orientation, and enough digital/AI fluency to turn opportunities into scalable, execution-ready initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Shape Digital Health Growth Strategy

  • Identify high-value public and digital health opportunities across East Africa

  • Define country, partner, and sector priorities for WAIG’s health portfolio

  • Translate public health needs into scalable AI/digital health program opportunities

  • Support decisions on where WAIG should invest, expand, or consolidate

2. Build Government & Institutional Accounts

  • Open and manage relationships with ministries of health and public institutions

  • Build trust with senior government, multilateral, and donor stakeholders

  • Convert early conversations into structured, long-term engagement opportunities

  • Anchor high-impact accounts from entry to scale and renewal

3. Drive Strategic Partnerships & Funding

  • Build partnerships with multilaterals, donors, foundations, and health institutions

  • Support concept notes, proposals, and fundable program narratives

  • Shape co-funded and multi-year opportunities aligned to donor priorities

  • Position WAIG as a credible AI and digital health partner in the region

4. Design Scalable Health Programs

  • Translate strategic opportunities into clear program designs and implementation models

  • Define program objectives, workflows, governance models, and success metrics

  • Ensure programs are grounded in public health delivery realities

  • Align digital and AI solutions with government systems and user needs

5. Support Program Execution Readiness

  • Work with product, AI, data, engineering, and delivery teams

  • Identify operational risks, adoption barriers, and deployment dependencies early

  • Ensure solutions are practical for local infrastructure and health workflows

  • Support transition from opportunity to pilot, deployment, and scale-up

6. Build WAIG’s Regional Health Portfolio

  • Identify the right mix of pilots, partnerships, and scaled programs

  • Build a coherent digital health portfolio across priority East African markets

  • Balance innovation with implementation feasibility and long-term sustainability

  • Represent regional insights in WAIG’s broader health growth strategy

What You Will Own

You will own the growth and strategic development of WAIG’s digital health portfolio across East Africa and broader Sub-Saharan Africa. This includes identifying high-value opportunities, building institutional partnerships, shaping fundable programs, and ensuring AI-enabled health initiatives are designed for adoption within real public health systems.

Success in this role means converting relationships and ideas into scalable, well-funded, and execution-ready health programs that deliver measurable public health impact.

What We Are Looking For

  • 7-12 years of experience in public health, digital health, health systems, strategy, partnerships, or program development

  • Strong experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa, preferably East Africa
Experience engaging ministries of health, multilaterals, donors, foundations, or large implementation partners

  • Ability to identify opportunities, build partnerships, and translate them into fundable programs

  • Strong understanding of public health systems, workflows, and digital health adoption challenges

  • Comfort working with product, AI, data, and engineering teams without being a pure product manager

  • Experience supporting proposals, concept notes, donor engagement, or funded program development

  • Strong communication, structured thinking, and stakeholder management skills

  • Willingness to be based in Nairobi and travel regularly (~ 40% of the time) across East Africa (dependent on program and stakeholder needs)
