We are not just another insurance company, our DNA is product-tech, and our approach is bold, innovative, and digital-first. From zero commission, zero paperwork, and instant renewals to same-day claims settlements and app-based tracking, ACKO is a Welcome Change from traditional insurers. But what truly sets us apart? Our people. At ACKO, every Acker’s voice and ideas matter. We’re a vibrant, inclusive team of creators, thinkers, and doers, building products that redefine protection while ensuring each Acker grows, thrives and does meaningful work.

Join us at ACKO, where bold ideas, real impact and tech-driven innovation redefine protection and peace of mind - and where YOU can make a real difference in people's lives. ACKO is a product-tech company, launched in 2016, solving real-world problems for customers, starting with insurance. And as a customer-first organization serving the digitally-savvy, ACKO’s value proposition of ‘Welcome Change’ focuses on offerings that make insurance simple and hassle-free! With features such as zero commission, zero paperwork, instant renewal, same-day claim settlements, and app-based updates on claims, ACKO is a 'Welcome Change' from traditional insurers.

Having said that, we are not just another conventional insurance firm, or the people consulted solely for "claims”! Anchored in a tech-centric philosophy, ACKO’s approach fuels innovation, empowering us to develop comprehensive products that cater to every aspect of our customers' insurance requirements. And while we are at it, we put our Ackers at the heart of everything we do. We're not your typical 9-to-5 workplace; we're a vibrant and inclusive bunch of innovators and creators making sure every Acker’s idea matters, their voice is heard, and their growth is part of our mission.

The Challenge & The Opportunity

Today, our data landscape is complex with tens of thousands of tables. Answering a single business question, like a marketing campaign analysis, can lead to the creation of hundreds of redundant tables. This lack of organization creates inefficiency, slows down decision-making, and erodes trust in data.

Your mission will be to lead the strategic overhaul of our data architecture. You will design our foundational data models, establish gold-standard practices, and mentor teams to create a single source of truth. This is a high-impact role that will directly influence Acko's strategic direction and operational efficiency.

What You'll Do

  • Design data marts based on canonical data models: Define/own the enterprise analytical schema(s) (domain models, dimensional/star/snowflake models, semantic layer) that reflect product and business domains (policies, claims, customers, journeys, marketing, finance, etc.).

  • Lead migration & consolidation: Plan and execute migration of existing dashboards, reports and ad-hoc SQL into the new models with analytics engineers and dashboard owners; reduce duplicate tables and fractured metric definitions.

  • Build modelling standards & patterns: Create modelling conventions, data layering strategy (e.g., Raw > Staged > Integrated > Marts), naming conventions, column semantics, partitioning/cluster strategy, lineage best practices and a model review process.

  • Enable analytics engineers: Work closely with analytics engineers to convert standards into reusable templates, dbt macros, data contracts and CI/CD for model deployments.

  • Data catalog & lineage: Select/configure and roll out a data catalog and lineage tools (or integrate with existing tools); ensure catalog coverage and maintain metadata hygiene.

  • Data quality & monitoring: Define data quality rules, implement automated checks (e.g., Great Expectations, Deequ or custom), and put in alerts & KPIs for data health.

  • Performance & cost optimisation: Define partitioning/clustering/indexing strategies, query best practices and monitor warehouse costs/performance; provide guidance for slot/compute sizing and query scheduling.

  • Governance & access patterns: Define semantic layer access, table/column level sensitivity tags, and data access policies with security and privacy teams.

  • Stakeholder management & collaboration: Run working sessions, present design proposals, provide training for analytics teams, and maintain regular communications with business owners.

  • Documentation & handover: Produce clear HLDs/LLDs, onboarding docs, data dictionaries, and run workshops for adoption.

What You'll Need

  • 8+ years in data engineering / analytics engineering / data architecture roles.

  • Strong experience designing analytical data models (dimensional modelling, canonical models, event-first or hybrid models).

  • Proven track record of migrating fragmented data estates to structured models and migrating dashboards/reports.

  • Hands-on with modern cloud data warehouses (BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks) and query performance optimization.

  • Experience with analytics engineering tools: dbt (or equivalent), SQL (advanced), Python for transformations/validation.

  • Familiar with data catalog/metadata tools (e.g., Amundsen, DataHub, Alation) and data quality frameworks (Great Expectations, Deequ, custom).

  • Experience with dashboarding tools and migration (Looker/LookML, Tableau, PowerBI, Metabase, Superset) and semantic layers.

  • Strong stakeholder management - comfortable working with product, marketing, finance and engineering teams.

  • Excellent documentation and communication skills; able to run workshops and training.

Why You'll Love Working at Acko

  • High Impact: This is not a maintenance role. You will define the future of data at Acko.

  • Scale & Challenge: Tackle a complex, large-scale problem that few professionals get to solve.

  • Leadership Visibility: Work directly with senior leadership to shape strategy.

  • Great Team: Collaborate with a talented and passionate team of data professionals.
