About the Role

As a Staff Engineer for CI/CD Release Management you will be a technical leader responsible for architecting, implementing, and evolving our release engineering infrastructure and practices at scale. You will define the strategic direction for our release processes, drive automation initiatives, and establish best practices that enable rapid, reliable, and safe software delivery across the organization.

This is a high-impact technical leadership role where you will design and implement sophisticated release orchestration systems, mentor engineers, and influence engineering practices across multiple teams. You will be responsible for ensuring our release infrastructure can scale with our growing product portfolio while maintaining the highest standards of reliability, security, and efficiency.

Core Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Architecture

    • Design and architect enterprise-scale CI/CD release management systems that support multiple products, environments, and deployment models

    • Define and drive the long-term technical roadmap for release engineering, including tooling, processes, and infrastructure

    • Establish release engineering standards, best practices, and patterns across the organization

    • Lead initiatives to improve deployment frequency, lead time, and change failure rate (DORA metrics)

    • Evaluate and introduce emerging technologies and methodologies to advance release engineering capabilities

  • Technical Execution & Systems Design

    • Architect and implement sophisticated release orchestration platforms that handle complex dependencies and multi-service deployments

    • Design resilient, self-healing deployment systems with advanced rollback and canary deployment capabilities

    • Build comprehensive observability and monitoring solutions for release pipelines and deployment health

    • Create intelligent automation frameworks that minimize manual intervention and human error

    • Implement progressive delivery strategies including feature flags, A/B testing integration, and gradual rollouts

    • Design and implement multi-cloud deployment strategies ensuring consistency and reliability across cloud providers

  • Collaboration & Influence

    • Partner with Engineering, Platform, Security, and Product teams to align release strategies with business objectives

    • Serve as the technical authority for release engineering, providing guidance and consultation to engineering teams

    • Drive cross-functional initiatives to improve developer experience and release velocity

    • Collaborate with SRE/DevOps teams to establish SLOs/SLIs for deployment reliability

    • Present technical strategies and results to engineering leadership and stakeholders.

  • Mentorship & Technical Leadership

    • Mentor and coach engineers on release engineering practices, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps principles

    • Conduct design reviews and provide technical guidance on release-related projects

    • Foster a culture of automation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence

    • Contribute to hiring and help build the release engineering capability within the organization

    • Share knowledge through documentation, tech talks, and engineering forums

Required Qualifications

  • Experience & Expertise

    • 10+ years of experience in release engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, or site reliability engineering

    • Proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale CI/CD systems supporting multiple teams and products

    • Deep expertise with multiple CI/CD platforms (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, CircleCI, ArgoCD, Spinnaker)

    • Extensive experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi) and GitOps workflows

    • Advanced knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Kustomize)

    • Expert-level understanding of multiple cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and multi-cloud architectures

    • Experience designing and implementing multi-cloud deployment strategies and cloud-agnostic solutions

  • Technical Skills

    • Strong programming/scripting skills in multiple languages (Python, Go, Bash, PowerShell)

    • Deep understanding of version control systems (Git) and advanced branching strategies

    • Experience with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd) and progressive delivery tools (Flagger, Argo Rollouts)

    • Proficiency with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog, New Relic, ELK stack)

    • Knowledge of build systems and package management for diverse technology stacks (mobile, web, backend services)

    • Understanding of security practices including secrets management, vulnerability scanning, and compliance automation

  • Leadership & Soft Skills

    • Demonstrated ability to drive technical vision and influence engineering practices across an organization

    • Strong system design and architectural thinking with focus on scalability, reliability, and maintainability

    • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex distributed system issues

    • Outstanding communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences

    • Experience working in agile/fast-paced environments with rapid iteration cycles

    • Proven ability to balance technical excellence with business needs and pragmatic delivery

    • Track record of driving continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with multi-region, multi-cloud deployment strategies and disaster recovery across cloud providers

  • Background in SRE practices and chaos engineering

  • Contributions to open-source release engineering or DevOps tools

  • Experience with mobile app store deployment processes (Apple App Store, Google Play)

  • Knowledge of compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR) as they relate to release processes

  • Experience building internal developer platforms and self-service deployment tools

  • Familiarity with hybrid cloud and edge computing deployment scenarios
