Digantara is seeking an Image Processing (AI/ML) Intern to develop, validate, and test machine learning and deep learning algorithms for both space-based and ground-based sensors. The intern will implement image processing algorithms to detect stars and streaks(RSOs) in the SSA images.

Someone with expertise in developing image processing algorithms (AI/ML) for ground-based telescopes.
Design and develop high-performance and optimized ML/DL models for object detection (stars as spots/blobs and objects as streaks/lines).
Perform detection and classification between the blobs and streaks.
Carry out model training and testing using the existing data (synthetic or real images).
Document the evaluation performance of the models/networks used for the detection and report retrieved coordinates with sub-pixel accuracy.
Bachelor’s/master’s degree in Electronics, Physics, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing and GIS, Data Science, Statistics, Astronomy, or any relevant field.
Prior academic/research/industry experience with significant aptitude in image processing algorithms, machine learning, and deep learning.
Proficiency in high-level programming languages like Python and familiar with implementing Object Oriented Programming (OOP) Structures.
Better understanding of the concepts of real-sky and astronomical images with the various signal and noise conditions.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Hands-on experience in creating networks like CNNs, GANs for detection, segmentation, and classification.
Understanding of Bayesian methods and probabilistic models for optimal orientation estimation in astronomical images.
Proficiency in PyTorch, TensorFlow/Keras, Astropy, Scikit-learn, Scipy, and other relevant libraries. Expertise in managing a git repository is an advantage.
Basic understanding of fundamental principles of Computer vision and familiarity with OpenCV.
