Digantara is seeking an Optical Engineer to design and develop cutting-edge optical systems for its ground—and space-based telescopes. The engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing advanced ground- and space-based telescopes that suit the Space Surveillance application.

Someone with expertise in designing satellite electro-optical payloads or ground telescopes.
Design a suite of optical systems of various apertures and focal lengths to satisfy the quality and performance metrics for Space Situational Awareness (SSA)
Develop a dedicated specifications set and optical system architecture suitable for space-based and ground-based telescopes targeting SSA applications
Validate and optimize the designs with optical simulations using ZEMAX/Code V or other relevant software, and carry out supplementary analysis using MATLAB/Python
Perform tolerance analysis and Monte Carlo simulations, and optimize designs for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (systems, mechanical, and electronics) to integrate optical systems into larger products
Troubleshoot and resolve optical system issues during development and production
Document optical system designs, analyses, and test results thoroughly throughout the development lifecycle
Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or PhD in optics/physics/astronomy, or any relevant field
3 to 7 years of industry experience or significant aptitude in optical systems design, simulations, and testing
Demonstrated experience in designing optical systems & telescope designs
In-depth knowledge of light propagation methods, optical systems, stray light analysis, and optical imaging concepts
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Experience building space-based or ground-based telescopes for high-resolution Astronomy will be a big plus
Stay up to date with the latest advancements in optical technology and fabrication
Proficiency in working in an optical laboratory, along with experience in testing and calibration of telescopes
Familiarity with Opto-Mechanical design
Knowledge of the standards for satellite payload hardware is an advantage
