About the role

We’re hiring a Staff Engineer, Platform to design and scale Healthie’s infrastructure. This role is focused on Phase 2 of Healthie going horizontal—post-OpenLoop—to decouple core domains, standardize tenancy-aware patterns, and enable horizontal scale across services and data paths. On the platform team, your efforts will ensure high availability and performance as our Rails GraphQL API grows to serve 10+ billion calls each month. You will operate at the intersection of architecture and implementation, enabling both platform strategy and day-to-day scalability.

You will unlock horizontal scaling options, define repeatable patterns for product teams, and chart a path forward for a Rails monolith in a multi-tenant environment. You’ll also guide how applications interact with databases at scale, while mentoring others and partnering with product engineers to enable rapid development on a stable foundation.

You’ll have autonomy to design and implement high-impact solutions, supported by a small, agile platform team motivated to solve complex scaling challenges in healthcare technology.

Our ideal hire has experience at scale, with deep expertise in data modeling and application ↔ database interaction. Healthcare experience is optional.

• This is a full-time, remote position and U.S. work authorization is required.

• The salary range is $205,000 - $235,000 plus benefits, equity, & annual bonus

About you

• You have 8–10+ years of engineering experience, including several years building and scaling infrastructure at scale for SaaS platforms

• Strong foundation in distributed systems, database optimization, observability, and automation

• Fluent in scaling mechanics: load balancing, caching, queuing systems, and failover strategies

• Clear communicator able to explain complex technical concepts simply; strong writing and async collaboration skills

• Organized and self-directed, with a track record of driving projects end-to-end in autonomous environments

• Curious and growth-oriented; ask sharp questions, solve problems thoughtfully, and balance pragmatism with long-term vision

• Well-versed in modern infrastructure: Postgres, Redis, Sidekiq, Kubernetes, AWS, CI/CD pipelines, observability platforms and 5+ years experience with Ruby/Rails

• Motivated by the opportunity to shape Healthie’s platform foundation long-term, mentor others, and tackle scaling challenges
