Role Summary
Role: Electrical Engineer, Low Voltage Systems
Location: Fremont, CA
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic startup disrupting mobility and living spaces. In this role, you will be responsible for defining unit-level specifications for low voltage electrical components, evaluating supplier capabilities, and supporting cross-functional teams with hardware selection and implementation strategies. You will serve as the technical authority for low voltage component integration, ensuring optimal power management and network architecture across our recreational vehicle platforms.
Responsibilities:
Develop detailed unit-level specifications for low voltage electrical components, defining performance requirements, interface standards, and validation criteria
Review and assess supplier test reports, qualification data, and component documentation to ensure compliance with technical specifications and quality standards
Support systems architecture teams by providing technical guidance on component selection, power budgeting, and electrical integration strategies
Collaborate with vehicle harness teams to optimize component placement, connector selection, and routing solutions based on power distribution and communication network requirements
Analyze power consumption profiles and network loading to ensure proper sizing and selection of low voltage devices including ECUs, sensors, actuators, and communication modules
Define electrical interface requirements and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for all low voltage system components
Conduct design reviews and trade studies to evaluate component alternatives, considering factors such as power efficiency, network bandwidth, cost, and reliability
Support validation activities by defining test requirements and reviewing component-level test results
Ensure regulatory compliance with NFPA, DOT, and other applicable standards through specification development and supplier oversight
Provide technical expertise to manufacturing, quality, and service teams regarding component selection rationale and implementation guidelines
Work directly with suppliers to drive component improvements, cost optimization, and specification compliance
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field
3+ years of experience in automotive low voltage systems with emphasis on component specification and supplier management
Strong background in electrical component specification development and supplier qualification processes
Experience with power budget analysis and electrical load calculations for automotive applications
Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and their impact on component selection
Familiarity with electro-mechanical component specifications (DC/Stepper motors, actuators, pumps, valves)
Experience with camera systems, LED lighting controls, and power distribution component specifications
Proficiency in CATIA or similar tools for component packaging and harness routing review
Demonstrated ability to lead technical trade studies and facilitate cross-functional decision-making
Strong analytical skills for evaluating supplier technical data and test reports
Excellent communication skills for interfacing with suppliers and internal stakeholders
Ability to travel internationally (<25%)
