Role: Supplier Quality Engineer
Location: Fremont, CA
Summary
As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that all suppliers meet quality standards and deliver products that meet the company’s specifications. This role involves evaluating supplier processes, conducting quality audits, managing non-conformances, and collaborating with suppliers and internal teams to drive continuous improvement. You will play a critical role in maintaining strong supplier relationships while ensuring that the supply chain operates efficiently and consistently delivers high-quality components.
What You’ll Do
Manage end-to-end supplier quality across mechanical, electrical, and interior components — driving readiness from prototype to full-scale production.
Define and communicate quality expectations for each component, collaborating with Design, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to ensure specifications and control limits are clear and measurable.
Lead component failure analysis (FA) and root cause investigations with suppliers: define failure analysis goals, coordinate FA work at supplier sites, summarize findings, and implement corrective and preventive actions using structured methods (5-Why, 8D).
Develop supplier improvement plans and track progress through measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPI) such as defect rate, response time, and audit performance.
Perform supplier audits and process capability assessments, ensuring alignment with Pebble’s Quality expectations and continuous improvement principles (Lean / Six Sigma).
Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by qualifying new components, validating supplier PPAPs or First Article Inspections (FAI), and ensuring smooth ramp-up to mass production.
Act as the quality voice for your suppliers — representing them in internal build reviews, MRB discussions, and customer-facing quality matters.
Drive data-driven decision making, compiling and analyzing supplier defect trends to proactively mitigate risks and identify opportunities for improvement.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, and Manufacturing teams to ensure strong feedback loops and alignment on lessons learned.
What You’ll Bring
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or related field).
5+ years of relevant experience in supplier or manufacturing quality within automotive, EV, or other high-volume production environments.
Strong understanding of quality systems and tools such as FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, and PPAP.
Hands-on experience with root cause analysis and corrective actions, ideally using 8D or 5-Why methodologies.
Proven ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and measurement data.
Familiarity with EV powertrain, chassis, or electrical systems (e.g., harnesses, sensors, battery modules, or mechanical assemblies).
Demonstrated track record in supplier performance management, including KPI tracking and structured improvement initiatives.
Analytical mindset with proficiency in Excel, Google Sheets, or statistical tools (e.g., Minitab).
Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across cultures and disciplines.
Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment where agility and ownership matter.
