Role Summary

The Shop Assistant Lead is responsible for overseeing the Shop Assistant team and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of the shop environment. This leadership role includes managing schedules, time-off requests, overtime, team meal breaks, cleanliness standards, ordering boutique inventory, and overall team accountability. The Shop Assistant Lead plays a critical role in maintaining operational excellence by supporting floral intake, inventory accuracy, cooler organization, supply management, and overall shop readiness.

This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced floral production environment requiring strong organization, leadership, and communication skills, along with the ability to perform physically demanding tasks throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Shop Assistant team including scheduling, time-off requests, overtime, meal penalties, and break compliance.

  • Delegate daily tasks and ensure responsibilities are completed efficiently and to company standards.

  • Establish clear expectations, accountability standards, and performance management practices across the department by holding team members accountable while supporting professional development aligned with company core values and employee handbook guidelines.

  • Conduct regular one on ones, performance conversations, quarterly conversations, coaching sessions, and development with the shop assistant team.

  • Lead by example with a hands-on approach during high-volume periods and daily operations.

  • Collaborate and partner closely with the Client Service Lead, Dispatch Lead, Design Leads and Regional Operations Manager.

Operational Performance & Accountability

  • Own weekly departmental scorecard metrics and reporting, monitoring performance indicators and driving corrective action as needed.

  • Execute and deliver quarterly Rocks and departmental priorities in alignment with company EOS goals and L10 meetings.

  • Develop, refine, and uphold SOPs, SLAs, LMS updates, service workflows and processes that improve department efficiency and consistency.

  • Analyze departmental performance trends and recommend operational improvements to leadership, as needed.

  • Ensure quality standards, documentation practices, and system usage remain accurate and consistent across the team.

Staffing & Training

  • Lead interviews, onboarding, and training of all new Shop Assistants across all aspects of the role according to 30/60/90 training schedule.

  • Provide ongoing coaching and support to ensure consistency and operational excellence.

Shop Operations & Inventory

  • Perform physically demanding tasks including lifting and moving flowers, arrangements, buckets, glassware, and supplies.

  • Manage and own the inventory process within the Pico boutique. Accurate floral inventory counts and inventory management through our Admin system.

  • Submit damaged flower claims via email for credit processing.

  • Manage supply inventory, including glass ordering, add on ordering and ensuring adequate stock levels.

  • Facilitate Shop Assistant deliveries and pickups as needed.

  • Collaborate closely with the design team and design lead to ensure all preparations and operational tasks are completed efficiently.

  • Manage floral transfers and team member responsibilities between all three corporate French Florist locations.

  • Coordinate with internal teams through Slack to support seamless daily operations.

Store Maintenance & Cleanliness

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop, storefront, cooler, breakroom, bathrooms, and parking lot while utilizing the cleanliness audit form.

  • Ensure cooler maintenance and cleaning tasks are completed consistently.

  • Vase backstock organization.

  • Fix all damaged or broken fixtures within the boutique.

  • Uphold company cleanliness standards across all operational areas.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in floral, retail, warehouse, or similarly physically active environments

  • Previous leadership or team management experience

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment

  • Friendly, professional, and team-oriented demeanor

  • Willingness to work weekends and holidays as needed

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move for extended periods throughout the shift

  • Ability to repeatedly lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds

  • Comfortable working in cooler environments and with water-based materials

  • Frequent use of hands and arms for lifting, organizing, cleaning, and handling floral products and supplies

  • Ability to maintain focus and productivity in a moderate-noise, fast-paced work environment

Schedule & Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: $24 - $25.00/hour

  • 8-hour shifts, weekends availability is a requirement for this position
