Position Overview:
We’re hiring an Employment Counsel for the APAC region to oversee the drafting, review, and management of employment contracts across diverse jurisdictions within Asia-Pacific. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with local employment laws and EOR-specific frameworks. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of APAC labor laws, experience supporting multi-country operations, and a pragmatic, solution-driven approach to contract and compliance challenges.
Draft and review employment contracts (permanent, temporary, freelance, contractor) aligned with local labor laws and regulatory frameworks across APAC countries.
Ensure contracts are fully compliant with jurisdiction-specific employment requirements, internal policies, and EOR-specific standards.
Provide legal guidance on employment terms, compensation, benefits, and termination processes tailored to each country’s labor regulations.
Partner with legal, HR, and business teams to support the onboarding/offboarding lifecycle, ensuring all employment documentation is correctly executed and stored. a
Maintain and update regional contract templates to reflect legislative changes and EOR needs.
Track legal and regulatory developments across key APAC markets, assessing impacts on employment documentation and compliance.
Support resolution of employment-related contract disputes, ensuring alignment with legal and EOR requirements.
Ensure documentation is maintained in compliance with local data protection laws and EOR standards.
Provide legal input during client or internal meetings regarding contract structures or compliance in the region.
Proactively identify areas of risk and propose solutions to improve contracting processes and reduce compliance exposure.
Work cross-functionally to build strong relationships with legal, business, and operational teams across multiple time zones.
Law degree (LLB or equivalent) with 4–6+ years of experience in employment law, contract management, or legal compliance in APAC jurisdictions.
Solid understanding of country-specific labor laws across key APAC markets (e.g., India, Singapore, Australia, Japan, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, etc.).
Experience working with or supporting EOR models, cross-border employment, or distributed teams.
Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills, with the ability to translate legal risks into actionable business advice.
Fluency in English is required; proficiency in an additional APAC language (e.g., Mandarin, Japanese, Bahasa Indonesia, or Thai) is a strong advantage.
Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to work independently and across global teams.
Highly organized with a detail-oriented mindset and excellent time management.
Familiarity with cross-border payroll, global mobility, or contractor compliance.
Prior experience in a legal or compliance role within an EOR, HR tech, or global workforce solutions company.
Certifications or continuing education in employment law, HR compliance, or contract management.
Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, multicultural environments across multiple jurisdictions.
